I am going to have a bash at replacing my front UJs, both of which have a bit of play in them. Is a 4 inch jaw vice adequate or am I better with a 6 incher...? Mr. Green

Just go slowly with some lube (pentitrating oil/ WD40) if it gets too tight just remove and start again, if you try to force them too much you can crack the cups very easily. 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html

More importantly than the jaw width is how far the jaws will open to enable the assembly to be pressed together Thumbs Up I started with nothing and still have most of it left!

Clamp
I tend to use a decent F or G clamp with sockets. That way I can lay the rest of the shaft on the bench. Plus you could take it with you on the road. And before I remove, I warm the whole lot up gently and then when it cools the seal is usually broken and the whole lot moves easily with a bit of oil. 2009 2.4TDCi XS Utility Wagon.
