Hi, I understand this opens with the rear door. May I know if there is an ability for only the carrier to open (separately from the rear door) as well?
e.g. can I clean the rear door behind the spare wheel by moving the swing career or must the spare wheel be removed etc? Many thanks! APK |

This type is attached to the door 1 bolt and can pull it clear but a faf to do it you can get you hand up behind though so not an issue to stay in place 2008 110 2.4 XS Utility (Hagrid)

Dan,
Does this one swing away independently of the door? I have a 110 utility and to connect caravan / trailers I need to keep door open due to spare wheel obstructing. Thanks Al 2015 Defender 110 XS Utility Santorini Black, sawtooth alloys, steps and so much more........... |

Ayrshirelandy, if you are having trouble hitching up a caravan, try a 2" spacer behind towball. A much better solution (not cheap) is using a Dixon Bates shocklink. Improves towing a lot and I would recommend it. If you have an Alko tow hitch with big red handle take the red handle off. Slightly more awkward undoing the tow hitch due to much shorter handle, to fasten the handle I tend to step on it.
HTH and hope Dan does not mind me commenting on his thread. Brendan |

May I know the difference between this item LR VPLDR0130 and Mantec 214-SWCDEF please?
Are there any structural differences or is it just the LR vs Mantec stamp? Thanks |

Dragging up an old post here but does anyone have the LR edition of the instructions for fitting this please?
I have a copy of the Mantec instructions but the LR kit is slightly different. https://thomasperformance.co.uk/downloads/...-print.pdf Stu... 2013 Aintree Green 90 XS SW 2.2 Puma |

I'm going through the same, I discovered the fitting instructions for the Wolf version in a set of MOD documents which had been released under FoI. Honest!
I've pulled out the pages relevant to fitting the wheel carriers (and converting the tailgate on a soft top). A combination of this one and the Mantec instructions will see it done. It explains why there are the extra bits you get over the retail carrier, and the longer bolts due to the thicker Wolf rear crossmember. http://media.defender2.net/gallery/albums/...DR0130.pdf Quite a big file sorry (28MB) 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top 2015 D90 XS SW |

Thanks a lot Martin. I think I found the same file in the early hours of this morning and I also had a copy emailed by Dan this morning.
A question though, I'm glad you're in the same boat, there is what seems to be a retainer or latch which is the rubber cup and ball. From what I can see the rubber would bolt on to the back plate using the right angled bracket included. However the back plate will sit flat against the rear door so there isn't the space to fit it. You can see in the image below it is mounted near the piston but on a raised back plate and not the flat type included in the kits. Stu... 2013 Aintree Green 90 XS SW 2.2 Puma |
