Actually cheaper for the ceramic connectors - best of both worlds

I found that there was ample room for the aux fusebox between the battery and the side panel of the battery box (the panel that the door shuts against), in what is otherwise completely wasted space.
There is a single feed from the +ve terminal to the fusebox (iirc 25mm^2 or thereabouts), now if I need additional fused unswitched feeds I can get them very easy. One position is used for a hardwired socket for a Ctek charger. When I get the chance I can post a pic if it would be of any interest. This, although not cheap, is an incredibly useful addition to a Puna Defender owner's toolbox: https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/facom-67sj...y-combina/ |

I know the area you mean, but viewing fuses can't be easy?

this is from memory but I think the Land Reziger loom is designed to go to the alternator and wont reach the battery, I'm fairly sure I had to extend mine as I wanted to go to the battery , it does indeed come with an in line fuse and ring connector for connecting to the alternator but I went straight to the +VE battery terminal via an existing hole in the seat box. this left the fuse near the terminal fusing the whole cable etx and making it fairly easy to get to if you should ever need to.
extending requires some wire the same gauge and some plastic flexible conduit, looks nice and original when done DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS, I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy |

Just to confirm, the Landreiziger loom only has just enough cable to reach the alternator, which is how I installed it. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

When I did my spots I used 3mm thinwall I think if I remember rightly. I put that through flexi conduit too. I think for the time being if I go for it I will just go for the alternator, I could extend at a later date. I'm just waiting to the new year to get the bits hopefully. âï¸âï¸God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 âï¸âï¸ |

The H4 connector on the back off the Noldens is built into the aluminium heat sink so I do not think that heat there will be an issue. As an aside how much of an issue is the main headlight switch? Have replaced switch twice in 20 years. It is a good idea to have some additional lights not wired through main beam. OK maybe not strictly road legal but a good back up. Fitted a set of Noldens to our 96 plate 110 and very pleased with them. No improved wiring loom, just plugged them in. Brendan |

Brendan - I agree with the switch, it is far over done.
Never had an issue, nit likely too but as we know anything could break. Personally I'm not over worried about it. I'm just wondering if there is a benefit from one of the upgraded looms with Noldens or not. Whilst they have a regulated driver they do still draw a current and I'm wondering how much losses maybe incurred in that due to the OE loom. I suppose I'm thinking of the loom due to taking everything out and fit and forget. But I am wondering if the expense of add on looswould be worthwhile or even they there would be the slightest difference. It's obvious with Halogen the looms are an improvement with reduced voltage losses and resistance but with LED's things aren't quite so black and white. I'm definitely getting the Noldens, just trying to make my mind up on the additional loom. I'm tending to think just suck it up, go for it and have done with it fit and forget both at the same time. Then finally I'll have all bits I've ever wanted. Noldens, SS bezzels, SS fixing kit, Land Reigziger loom. Then I can go and get a life and start living again. âï¸âï¸God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 âï¸âï¸ |

If anyone is looking at a loom upgrade, then google "Traxide". They are much respected in Aussie, & make various loom upgrades & other stuff for Defenders. Never heard a bad word about them.

A bit off topic, but not entirely. Last few days during travels have been driving an Evoque with standard factory halogen headlights.
They are probably less good than my SVX Cristals with the premium Land Rover H4 bulbs and my Landreiziger loom. Just to show that you can do pretty well with bringing a Defender up to modern standards. I will stick to my current setup for original look reasons, and for the fact that I never liked running my Speaker LED in combo with the factory 90 mm halogen driving lamps. A pity that no LED lights manufacturer ever cared to develop a LED replacement for the SVX, Raw, Fire, Ice 90 mm driving lamps. I am the first to admit that LED are better than anything else, but my hopes for a full front LED setup have been squashed long time ago. Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |

I know it can be a pain to get a match, it was like the side repeaters at one time.
But when they were developed. ( at great cost!) they were a great addition. âï¸âï¸God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 âï¸âï¸ |

Hi Guys and girls, hope you all had a lovely few days.
Well now I am over the turkey, sausage and stuffing and recovered from an over indulgance of the vodka I eventually have had time to think which route I wish to take following all your replies and some research of my own. It appears from my searches and listening to people on this fantastic site that there is little info on LED and not a hugh experience of the LED headlight concept or for that matter much love of the technology, however I have to admit that I have learned a lot from the comments offered and from my own research I have come to a conclusion on the route I will be taking. The LED option initially looked very interesting and seemed to offer greater benifit over halogen but it was noticable that there was not a lot of interest here in going that route or splashing out the cash, so after careful consideration and weighing up the benifits against the cost which was around £300/400 for a set of full LED headlights, I have finally come to a decision, The Decision......: I do not consider the outlay for LED is currently worth trying without more info or people having testing the concept, so my route will be crystal lenses and an uprated harness to inject the full voltage to a halogen set up as discussed often on the posts. So there we are guys and girls Very soon I will order the new lenses and the harness as I am sure it has to be better than the candles I have at the moment. In conclusion many thanks to you all for the comments and the advice, as usual I am glad I actioned the post, as again I have learned a lot from all you experienced people which has helped in my final decision. Happy New Year to you all Grateful Ole Dave |

That's how lighting wise I wan mine ^^^^ although sticking with halogen spots for the time being at a later date will likely experiment.
Dave - Wise choice, you'll get the best bang for buck so to speak for expenditure that way. And as you'll have the loom fitted, if you do at a later date want to go LED you have the loom already fitted and you could sell the Crystals. In the meantime you will have a very good, improved set up. You may even wish to stick to it. What LED headlights were you looking at? Not sure what Speakers are but Noldens are neigh on £600, costly but appreciate their lumen output, design work and R&D put into them. âï¸âï¸God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 âï¸âï¸ |
