How about doing some windscreen hinge blocks but in steel rather than aluminium or stainless?

Door hinges Bonnet hinges Bonnet blocks Door handles ?? ?? We can plate / hard / soft anodise as required. We can also machine titanium, which would be relatively expensive but last a while! |

Latches for the truck cab/hardtop windows! Don't know how bad it is with SW windows, but the old fashioned type ( mwc7625 and mwc7648 ) is absolutely worthless and breaks almost just by looking at it. On the last holiday we started to use them more frequently and ended up with three of them broken after as many weeks. It's not even a reinforced type of plastic and I think they're probably the most brittle part in the car. And that for locks...
Our Hardtop has 4 windows, so 2x4 of them, I have already been contemplating replacing the windows by gullwings just to have a reliable locking system, but would also like to keep them original. Greetings, Joris |

Please don't go down the route of exotic metals and ridiculous prices, we have Kahn for that.
Why not do some good Land Rover faithful products from cheep affordable materials like cast iron or steel and galvanise them or paint them properly so that you can have a quality product that lasts a long time and does not cost £400 a door handle? Thing very carefully what items you intend to make. There are already quite a few companies making door hinges, bonnet hinges etc. There are other new companies coming along entering the same field.
Why not try and find unique niche type items? As a new company think about your unique selling points rather then trying just to compete with existing companies. Brendan |

Thanks Brendan. It just strikes me that the pricing of some of these simple parts seems to be disproportionate to the cost. I'll have a look at it and see what it costs to make and take a view on it. I won't know until I have a crack at it

You will be surprised at how quickly the costs mount up, designs, material, programming, finishing etc. Particularly as most of these kinds of parts are done in small batch production so don't receive the large quantity discounts.

I know what you mean! I've been running a products business for the last couple of years designing and making prosthetics. There are some complex low volume components (hydraulic bodies in particular) with cheeky tolerances of 4 microns. I don't think LR work to those sort of tolerances

I and 199.999 Defender owners would love a one piece billet windscreen washer double jet anodised black with a slightly bigger diameter outlet that didn't blow away at temperatures under +3? 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..
