Surely someone must know who they are...
THREE dogs were abandoned in Winwick last week with two of the unwanted pets suffering from dehydration, open wounds and severe bruising. The team at Warrington Animal Welfare (WAW) are now caring for the pets after the two lurchers and a terrier were spotted being thrown from a green Land Rover on Thursday at 2.30pm. "The terrier ran off but was later taken to Rees Veterinary Centre and picked up by WAW," said Caroline Tebbs, centre manager. "The two lurchers, who are now called Sally and Boris, were in a dreadful state - underweight, dehydrated, infested with fleas, open wounds and severe bruising. "Sally will need part of her tail amputated due to an injury." The two lurchers were checked over at Orford Lane Vets but on Friday morning Boris had collapsed after going into septic shock. He has since been responding well to treatment at Beech House Vets. Caroline added: "Both Sally and Boris are only about two years old. "It's so heart-breaking to imagine what kind of life they have had. "We are looking for a very special person to foster Boris when he comes out of the vets as he will need a lot of care. "The foster home will need to be a very quiet home with no children, no cats and experience of lurchers." This time of year is always difficult for the charity as people come to discover they can no longer care for pets which were bought as presents. She added: "Taking on the responsibility of caring for another life is no minor undertaking and it is up to each and every potential pet owner to make sure that they are ready for this challenge both in terms of logistics such as time and money, and emotionally as well. "Pets are not presents and living animals do not make good gifts. "The only person that you should be considering getting an animal for is yourself." The swear filter would melt if I were to express my outrage at this kind of behaviour in my normal parlance. The perpetrators should be found and hurt. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.
