Improving Main Beam by Adding Dipped

Is there a reason for not wiring up the dipped to come on with the main? I can see it may get a bit warmer.

I was thinking of going down the relay upgrade route but wondered if I should plan to add this into the upgrade.

My guess is the bulb would overheat causing both filaments to fail.

With a normal H4 bulb you will shorten the life of the bulb - probably drastically. If, however, you have LED headlights then some of them (Nolden and J W Speaker EVO I and II I know of) will switch off dipped beam once main is selected - the internal electronics inside the headlights prevent both.

Some other LED headlights may allow this - I know Vision X headlights will and in fact they produce a small harness to enable this.

With my Nolden headlights i feel that it wouldn't make too much difference anyway, but the main beam could be better, especially in the wet. I'm pondering putting a 20" or 21" LED light bar behind the lower grille. I have the Adventure-spec front grille and the lower part is much more open that the standard one and it's giving me some ideas to make use of it. Dave

Running both filaments on a h4 bulb will overheat it rapidly. Redoing the loom with relays will help, and adding a couple of driving lights on the front bumper is also a good easy option.

I have some nice driving lights to wire up so it is in progress. I was merely speculating as to why it isn't a standard Mod.

I use nightbreaker light bulbs on my 306 and that makes a massive difference so a good quality light bulb is a must, and good set of lights too. I bought my dad a pair of new head lights with nightbreaker bulbs and I tell you what he loves it!
I bought him a pair of dip and full beam spots too, so the front end is pure hardcore for lighting up the full works!
