The body panels kept coming back from the paint shop and i kept bolting them on making it look more and more finished. This was giving me a psychological boost, ignoring the very long list of smaller jobs that needed doing. They were all the jobs that seem to take ages for very little visual result.

When i sold the original doors i started looking for some good secondhand replacements. It was then that i realised how expensive they were and, unless i found some very late ones, they all seemed to have either rust or dents to some degree. As i now had nothing i even considered buying some old tatty ones and rebuilding them with new skins and frames but in the end i decided to go for new 2 piece doors. I found some that have the bracket so i could still use my original check strap and they also operate the interior light. I was very pleased with the decision and the end result.

Could I ask roughly what you paid for the painting of the panels?

And what was included, in terms of the level or prep they did etc.?

I delivered all the panels individually and he painted them as and when he could between other jobs. He done all the necessary prep, primer and top coat on every panel except the roof for £1000. I've only ever had bits and pieces of paintwork done in the past, never a full re-paint, so i had no idea what it would cost but it seemed like a good price to me.

That's cheep for a respray, you are looking close to 2k depending on where you take it. you way seems a good idea, panels at a time, painted then bolted back on,

Useful, thank you. I have to sort the paint for mine next year and will probably end up going down the panel-by-panel route also, partly as that will fit my schedule but also to spread cost.

Car is looking good by the way, some good work so far.

One of the last panels to be finished was the roof, this was painted with Raptor bed liner and fitted. At one point i had considered painting the whole vehicle with Raptor but after seeing a couple of vehicles in the flesh that had the same finish i decided against it. I Also painted the rock sliders and winch bumper in Raptor and fitted them. I worked through the long list of little jobs that needed doing and the truck finally rolled out of the workshop under it's own power in July this year.

It flew through it's MOT and was now back on the road and ready to use but with loads of things left to do to get it as we wanted it.

The plan from the outset was to use it as an overlander that we could sleep in. Although it was possible to sleep in it as a standard vehicle it would mean a lack of head room and storage. We really wanted a lifting roof and there were several choices but our preferred choice was the one from Alu-Cab

We planned to buy a truck, not do a rebuild, so the budget wouldn't run to a lifting roof at the mo so, as a temporary measure, we bought a Patriot roof rack, transferred the roof tent and Foxwing from the 90 and planned to use it like that until we could afford the lifting roof.

Although it was very basic with no soundproofing, headlining, trim, 2nd battery etc it got it's first outing at Billing in July. The drive up highlighted 1 or 2 minor niggles that were sorted while we were there and the journey home was much better, it drove lovely and made the last few months worthwhile.

Out of interest, what were the dimensions on the side lockers in the side panels? Wondering how they compare to the standard sliding window option fitted to station wagons 2007 - Stornoway Grey 90 XS SW - Gone

The aperture for the side lockers measures 450mm x 1040mm, not sure how that compares with a station wagon, i'm sure somebody on here will know.

The interior consists of 2 seats and loads of bare metal. It was MOT'd in July but since then i've been catching up on other stuff that got neglected while i was building it so i've only done bits and pieces since. The back looks like a shed, full of all the stuff that still needs fitting but as soon as i get anything fitted and make a space i buy some more stuff and fill it up again Embarassed

Since fitting the roof rack and roof tent i've continued to research the idea of a lifting roof. There are several available from South Africa, Germany and Australia, none of which we can afford at the mo. I also looked at a self assembly DIY one and even considered building my own but realised i don't have time for that. Then a chance phone call came up with a very viable alternative at a much more attractive price. Lots of emails, research and face to face chats saw us dong a deal that will see it fitted to the 110 by the end of January. We now had to clear the roof in preparation. The roof tent was sold on eBay last week, the Foxwing will be stored and re-fitted on the new set up so i've just got the roof rack left to sell. Anyone need a Patriot rack for a 110?

It's been a while but the 110 is nearly finished so i thought i'd post some pics of it's progress. A chance conversation resulted in the purchase of a lifting roof, the owner had designed a built it with the idea of marketing it. He demonstrated it at shows for a couple of years before deciding to sell it, i bought the roof, rack, storage boxes and lights.
