A leaking, non wiping new (ish) defender owner
Hi to all,

first post an all that, although I have been visiting the site since I bought me first Defender back in August last year (deffo the best Defender forum!). A ten year old hard top 90 with galv chassis and bulk head, I love it!

In the main its been fine (most problems there have been were fixed under warrenty from the dealler I bought it from). However there are a couple of niggles creeping in which I want sorted as they are starting to annoy me.

Firstly, it leaks quite badly between the seal where the hard top section meets the rear tub (if thats what you call it?) particularly badly at the front nearest to the front seats. My question is this, can I simply get some mastic and run it in the gap where the seal is? Or is that a bad idea?

Secondly I have an issue with my wipers: they dont do intermitant anymore, they dont park where they should do and they dont do the flick wipe thing anymore. I HAVE looked at various different threads on this site and others. And from what I can gather because the wipers are still working the motor(s) are not busted however the park switch is and that this park switch is something that can be replaced without replacing the whole motor? And that once fitted this park switch should also sort the lack of intermitant wiping as well.

Also whilst I'm on! I have the exmoor acoustic matting up front with rubber foot mats on top. I am thinking of fitting the cab carpet kit that exmoor do as well, does anybody know if there is room to fit the carpet over the top of the accoustic matting and have the matts as well? Or will it restrict the pedal travel?

Regards
Will

For the leak, check the water ingress manual.

Look for "defender water ingress manual" in google to find the appropriate PDF Whistle

Thanks for the replies chaps.
It is ten years old, but was rebuilt about 18 months ago.
