[Wanted] Beagle puppy
I doubt this is the correct section so feel free to move if required.

I'm looking for a beagle puppy for my daughters 10th birthday in February. Obviously it will be a family dog (dad will do most of the walking and all of the clearing up) but it's a complete minefield out there with even KC registered breeders running secret puppy farms behind the scenes.

I'd appreciate any help finding somebody trustworthy. I've been without a dog for 20 years now and waited until everything in life is in a good place, it's time for a puppy to come and cause some chaos.

I'm in Suffolk but more that happy to travel whatever distance is required.

I appreciate the link but I've heard horror stories regarding KC registered breeders. I was hoping for a personal recommendation. DON'T PANIC

One way is to go to a Championship dog show (probably none until 2017) and ask around. You can find out where and when shows are at the previous link.

You could contact Pat Sutton ( details under Surrey on previous link). Not sure if she still breeds beagles but will be able to point you in the right direction.

You're right to be careful but I'd suggest that more KC Assured Breeders are reputable than not. Make sure you can go and see their premises where any pups should be with the mothers.

Oh, and beware of anyone saying they are KC Registered Breeders. Anyone can register a dog at the KC but they need to be accredited to be a KC Assured Breeder.

Can I suggest looking at the Beagle Club website if you haven't already?

There's lots of info on there and most clubs will have a puppy liaison person who will steer you in the right direction as regards better breeders and avoiding rogues.

Good luck and if I can offer one piece of advice it is this. February is not that long away so it's possible that if you like a breeder you may want to go on their list and wait a bit longer as opposed to rushing in to something which is not quite right.
