Yes it can be a sensor reading problem, but the VCV is more common for this sort of idle issue.
With the bas2 rrc you can view all sensors live values which is very handy for sensor diagnostics. http://bellautoservices.co.uk/help-faq/bas...live-data/ |

Don't tempt me Pete....
Anyway I must change the sensor. If this doesn't solve the issue I will come back to you. Cheers! Eduardo MY 2007 110 SW PUMA 2.4: Big Fog of 64' MY 1994 Jayco 1207 Folding camper: "El Tremendo" Click image to enlarge |

Well the sensor change didnt solve the problem
During our long weekend the same issue happens again when we went to the farm (5 hours trip). At the beginning and after 1-2 hrs of driving the Defender start to up-down the revs when was idle (810-700 rpms). But the things going worst with the time and the revolutions going down for one second (drops from 2000 rpm to 900 rpm) when you release the trottle pedal despite the gear and then come back to normal. Was quite difficult to get it in idle in neutral if you dont accelerate it, and finally when you try to continue to the first gear, the engine stops with the rpms fall under 400 rpms. One strange thing is that if you stop the car for some minutes came back to normal for 30-45 minutes. No MIL or any DTC stored The other most strange thing is that when we come back the issue doesnt appear again. So, appears that the VCV needs to be change. Time to buy a new VCV and also the new BAS remap . Cheers! Eduardo MY 2007 110 SW PUMA 2.4: Big Fog of 64' MY 1994 Jayco 1207 Folding camper: "El Tremendo" Click image to enlarge |

It sounds like a VCV, Volume control valve. I did not have 5mph scenario, but all the other complaints are similar.
