We've had a few defenders over the years. Always wanted one of the Atlantic Green Heritage models, but they are all fairly long in the tooth now, I just don't fancy having to deal with welding bits of an 16 year old chassis and corrosion coming through the door skins, etc.
Click image to enlarge So I ordered a new Heritage, the day after they were released for sale. As the 11 months between ordering and delivery passed, it became clearer that the Heritage was going to be a bit short on the specification: no leather seats (as on the original, just poxy light coloured cloth covered things), no aircon (an option/standard on any defender except the new Heritage) and not even a radio. Scunnered. So we sold it and bought Mrs Doublea an Adventure with the money. 110 safely home and tucked up in the garage. My Ismir blue 110 and her Firenzi red 90 have since been sold. The 110 UW is here to stay. The great thing is that it can be personalised without worrying about "defacing" a collectable, celebration model. Click image to enlarge First modification: Had the roof painted white by the dealer as it couldn't be done at the factory. Apparently. First repairs: Tightening up the brake pipe union that was leaking! Click image to enlarge Relocate wiring loom trapped between chassis and tub. Click image to enlarge So much for the PDI, just as well I did my own post delivery inspection. In the IT development world they are known as 'undocumented features'.

Not everybody's cup of tea, but I like these cheapo plastic lamp guards.
Before Click image to enlarge After Click image to enlarge I'll need to tidy the garage a bit before I post any further pics... the garage was a major draw when we were looking for a new house. Back end looks a bit more traditional with the heritage rear badge.

Nice. Love the garage, we are in a pickle at the moment with the house.
We want a big (big) garage, but don't need or want a large house. Estate agents don't list houses for sale with a filter for the garage size, so we are sick of looking at the moment!! Black on topic... I've fitted retro-fit air com kits on a Puma before, it's pretty simple. I see a Lotus lurking in your garage as well |

Looking good... Where did you get the "cheapo plastic lamp guards" and the heritage rear badge? Best Alex |

I'm not really an extravagant spender, but I do like my cars and bikes. I've had the Lotus 16 years now, but it's in need of an undercarriage refurb, a job I had planned to do this winter. Apart from occasional repairs, it's got to the stage where it costs virtually nothing to run - negative depreciation and insurance is pretty reasonable. I just need a British bike now, I fancy a vintage trial bike to replace the beemer (which I have owned for about 12 years and again costs nothing to run). Alex, the cheapo lamp guards were from bowers:
http://www.bowerspartsonline.co.uk/vehicle...over-parts or on the bay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LAND-ROVER-DEFEN...Sw-W5UtPaR The badge was from my local dealer, ordered as a spare when we had the Heritage. I also bought one of these cast aluminium ones and fitted it to the front grille recently, however, the salt spray is beginning to attack it: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Land-Rover-Serie...SwJ7RYSX1m Only £15 by the way! Been experimenting with heritage style grilles
Felt this one had too much silver on show. Click image to enlarge Looked better behind the frame, but it didn't really fit properly. Click image to enlarge Tried this new stage one grille from Pegasus, but felt it was too open with all the gubbins on show. It was very expensive too. Click image to enlarge Tried the chunky from Matt, saw it at the Land Rover Show in Edinburgh, but I reckon it's too chunky in the black, may be ok in green. Very good value for money this one. Click image to enlarge Settled on the first silver one painted Keswick with the headlight surrounds painted green too. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Ideally, I'd like to get the grille and surround back flush with the headlights, never been a fan of the sticky out grille look. It's a bit of a squeeze with the aircon though. Somehow the new Defender lettering with old oval badge seem to conflict each other.
I think you chose the right grille combo though. |
