Defender doors
Finally bought a defender and fitting 2 new door bottoms to a 1999 TD5 and I am struggling to get them to fit well. I am using series style doors with sliding windows. I have fitted new stainless bolts, new hinges, new handle assemblies, new door seals. There seems to be some movement at door hinge side into the captive plates but door sits too far onto striker. Took striker off but there is no shim or anything behind it. Are there different strikers or is there something obvious I am missing. Any help appreciated from a defender beginner.

Pictures would help if at all possible?

From whatIi can tell.... Sounds like your door latch may be to far outboard, if that makes sense.

When you shut the door, does it align with the body or does the latch hold it away from the body?

If this is the case it may be the latch mounting holes need to be elongated inboard to bring the latch further in and thus the door.

The door hinges should be tight against the bulkhead and the door.

Where did you get the bits from? Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197

It would be worth comparing the size of the doors against your old ones. If they're cheap aftermarket ones it's not unknown for them to be 1/2" or so out of size.

Thanks for replies. The door bottoms were Britpart and I bought a set of new hinges at Craddock spares. I think door seals were Britpart and the door handle assemblies were all makes 4x4. It was existing series doors on it and the pillar parts do look different to the ones in the MUD link I was looking at. I will take some pictures and post them up. Drilled the lock holes exactly the same way the link did using copper grease and marking hole. [/b]
