new arrival now 4 months old, been 4 months since I've been at the defender, have been collecting parts and hoping I might get out over the Christmas holiday. Would be great to be on the road next summer, that will be a 4-year build lol

Thanks. It'll be going on soon Wink

So just a few minor details to sort before MOT time.

The GEMS benefits from an obd port, so I decided put it in this housing to go in the seatbox

Literally only needs 3 wires Shocked

Then I have an issue to sort.

The engine starts but doesn't switch off. Apparently the ECU is pulling a live from the alternator, so it seems I may need a diode going in somewhere.....anybody any idea? Embarassed

point A start the ecu power up and also power down

with the alternator excitation cct power from point B in the cct and not diode fitted ecu has no way switch off and stop the engine

your wiring shroud same as 200tdi wiring but instead wire too fuel stop sol in the fuel injector pump go to the coil

turn your key to off and you stop making spark at the plugs engine stops running, I no not 200tdi but good start
it from V8 with no ecu and coil and disturber, but if you had ecu wired in the same place as the coil you can see how your problem will hap on if no diode is fitted in the alternator excitation cct to prevent 12 volt back feed from alternator

Alt has diode in the excitation cct to prevent 12 volt back feed from alternator on engine stop when key is switch to off

diode 4 amp rating

i am going to stop reading post on my phone Embarassed on the PC it all make sync

v8 pdf schemes

my hats off to you Bow down getting it to start and run, tacking me back to my prototyping days with dorman engine and gas engine electrical control up grade

Thanks very much, I'll be stripping the steering column off very shortly together to the whole of the dash. Thanks for your searching, I really appreciate it. I also noticed you doing these things helping people out here and there on here. Thank you.

Dorset, I'm assuming you know quite a bit about electrics as you listed the 4 amp diode... do you know how/where I could get hold of one if possible?
