You may have a faulty Flasher unit. (YWT500050 - RELAY FLASHER UNIT)
Could be loose internal contacts or short circuit due to vibrations. See if your flasher unit has a little knob on it. if it has turn it a little to turn the trailer light off.

Hi guys
Thx so much for all your insights. I've gone as far as replacing the entire trailer connector at the back of the vehicle (as I did find water in it), but despite this and the fact that all the flickers and light functionality on both the Defender and the trailer are perfect, the trailer warning lamp on the dash still remains permanently on when the ignition is turned on. It's booked to go in to my local Land Rover specialist tomorrow morning. I'll let you know the outcome in due course. Cheers Peter |

Hi again
So in it went on Friday and as they couldn't find the problem I was requested to take it in again today. I got it back, late this afternoon. It was established that there had been a short in the wiring in the main loom under the vehicle which had also caused the relay to require replacement. All sorted! Thx again for all your insights. Cheers Peter |
