Hi.
Can this switch be used for a rear work light as an on/off switch with ignition off (i.e. dirct power feed from battery)? (sorry I am technically challenged when it comes to this sort of thing.) Thank you. |

AYes you can.
That is the switch we use to operate two led lights used for reversing and camping. Brendan |

Not direclty powered from the battery without a relay in the loop. (switch therefore controls the relay) But yes it can swtich on/off anything - but these are not designed for full loads (as i understand) and nor would you want them to. Mike |

Ok thank you. Now I am confused....
Basically my application is a rear LED work light that has a on/off switch built into it. I would like to be able to also switch the light on/off from inside the cab for reversing at night etc. Is there an alternate switch I could use? Also I believe there is a fused wire behind the righ rear speaker panel which I could use. Is this continual power regardless of ignition position? Can I adapt this to be used in conjuction with the above switch? Thank you. |

Although i missed the LED bit originally I still dont think i would run it through the switch direct, even if it was just ease of cabling! What does a LED lamp pull (save me walking to the ones i have in a box)...a relay needs no more than 1 amp Mike |

OK. So what is the best/easiest way to connect up the rear LED work light with a switch in the front? (doesnt have to be this switch)
Thank you. |

Well its all above (ignore Leeds and my discussion) You either have power at the back and use that...therefore you are best using the switch to trigger a relay (keep main power run down) as per this thread. Or You have power at the front (eg battery) and you run from battery through switch to light (i dont like this option for many reasons and wouldnt recommend it) Or You have the power at the front (eg battery) and you run all the cabling (relay or not) in the front - sending a + feed to the light at the back (and earthing locally) Or You have power at the back and you run to the front and back to switch the light throught the switch I would go for 1 or 3 - and would (in either) use a relay and a few fuses. Probably good advice there! We have two 1 watt LED lights on the back. Total draw about 0.2 amps The Vision X lights are a 10 Watt LED lights and draws less then 1 amp The next jump up is 6 x 3 watt LED at 1.5 amp Then yesterday was talking with a guy about 36 watt LED lights. Might get a play with them later in the year So unless you are going for the big LED lights no need for a relay. As a matter of interest what sort of current would be needed for say a 30 amp relay? OK we have wandered off the initial topic but so what. Please feel free to ignore me! Brendan |
