ebay GSP

A word of caution for our non UK based forum users.

PLEASE PLEASE be careful when buying off ebay.

We have just been sent an email from ebay. Item sold through the GSP programme.

Customer charged £82.50 by ebay. Our price on ebay was £7.50 including UK delivery

Where was this item going? Sorry not out of space but to Australia.

Am not sure what Royal Mail would charge for large letter to Australia but would have thought less then £10

If a non UK based forum user wants to buy an item off ebay UK it could be beneficial to contact the seller direct and see if they will ship abroad.

OK you may lose some 'protection' by not going through ebay but you could save £££s

I just checked that Brendan, being in Australia and having ebay open....

There is some sort of error there. The total cost landed here in Australia for that item shipped via GSP is $34Aus

item $12.49
Shipping $21.52
Import charges $0.00

Total 34.00

I was trying to upload a screen shot but my photobucket login is being obstructive 2001 90 HT 6.0LS/6spdAuto.
2003 90 td5 soft top.
2014 90 XS SW 2.2.

I have no idea what is happening with eBay then!

To say I was gobsmacked/outraged about how much eBay had charged according to the email I received was an understatement.

A total of 34 AUD is much more reasonable

One thing to be aware of if you are in say Australia is that if you buy off eBay GSP you pay UK VAT. Reason being the UK company is not exporting the item directly so by HMRC rules UK VAT has to be charged.

Now if someone in Australia had bought that item direct from us the cost would have been

Gasket £6 inc. VAT less VAT = £5

Postage/packaging/paypal fees = £12

Total £17 or AUD 28.6

In this example UK VAT is a small amount but if the item was say £120 inc VAT it would be less £20 or £100 ex VAT.

I would still suggest contacting the seller direct and compare prices.
