My electricity bill nearly doubled in the year after my supplier insisted (against my wishes) upon fitting a "smart meter", despite my usage profile not changing siginificantly.
I am forced to the conclusion that either my old meter was seizing up and not accurately registering the amount of juice I was actually using, or that the "smart meter" is a complete rip-off device. I cannot say that I can think of a single advantage of having a "smart meter", and wish I hadn't let them on the property. |

It's a lot more sophisticated these days. One of our buildings had it's meter stolen, twice. The scam, apparently, is to steal a meter that's about the same size as your own and then swap it out between readings. Needless to say, our meter has been suitably secured now  Darren

I get most of my that sort of thing from http://cpc.farnell.com/
They have regular offers on but you get used to the numbers you have to add on to the end of product codes to get a discount. This sort of thing: http://cpc.farnell.com/pro-elec/hk-ld580a-...dp/LP07866 Now that bulb is listed in their offers catalogues but isn't actually reduced in them - so part codes LP07866, LP0786687 and -08 are all valid but don't gain you anything. It's worth a try though, 02, 08, 10, and 87 are all pretty common discount suffixes. LED Floodlights - be extremely wary of the cheapo eBay ones. We bought a heap and none of them came earthed and by the sounds of things that's pretty common. A few of them have lasted for us but most only did a year. The current LEDVance/Osram ones that CPC are doing are much brighter for the same nominal power and they are built a whole heap better. Thank you, not currently available but gives the specs to look for. Still not a bad price to bring them up to date, considering what they originaly cost to buy and run compared to the torches you can get now. |

Never with the ones I've had, there is no need eBay related snobbery. Best practice is to check earths when installing. During transportation who knows what could come loose before you buy any item. It's not eBay snobbery at all, it's a genuine safety issue with a lot of them.
I've had them from a handful of different places on eBay and lots have come with no earth - not that it's rattled loose or anything, it's just clearly not been fitted. It's not just me saying it either: Externally the one in the video looks quite different to the ones I've had with no earth but it's the same story inside. |

Just the other night,
Old envelope and pen in hand I walked around the house making a note of ALL the lights (well inside) not outside / garage etc Was very surprised to find probably over half still the old fashioned normal 60W type... of various fitting types. So I'm currently looking on CPC website as they seem good value for A+ rating I'm a little confused if I should go for cold white or warm white (warm sounds better) and then the 3000K, 6000K ?? I'm not buying headlights? Whats 'normal' I think there are some savings to be had here  |

I have warm white in the kitchen and its a nice light, nicer than the old halogen GU10's.

We run 16 PVs and have changed all the lights to LEDs, also have air pump heating and hot water, over the year it works out zero cost after outlay of kit.
One thing to note, the cheaper 12v recessed GU type lamps emit lots of rf and takes DAB out, 240v don't |

This is were you need to go for maglite upgrades: http://thetorchsite.co.uk/D_cell_LED_Upgrades.html I have a few of their upgrades, all make a huge difference to mags and very keenly priced.
