Looking at the catalogue, it's estimate isn't too bad?
Shame it's not the 2.6 and has been re powered by a BMC lump Neutral 80" 80" 86" 88" 90"

Was this FC registered after it was produced? K reg was not 1966. I had a SWB series 2A on a C reg and that was a 1965 ? Is there anything mentioned about this?

Fine truck though. I would love it. Ticks all the boxes. FC, my own cherry picker, what more could I ask?

A 1966 registration would have a "D" suffix, my old Triumph 2000 was '66 and MKX84D.

I don't have a problem getting my hands on cherry pickers!
You should see the workshop! Laughing

4th of the production line, then used at Eastnor castle untill 1984, then it was registered for the road after changing hands.

So obviously must have fell off the system when DVLA started up.
My 80" is the same, registered in 84 due to being tucked away unloved for too long! 80" 80" 86" 88" 90"

Thought as much. Thanks Ian Thumbs Up

Always wanted my own cherry picker and fitted onto a Forward Control would be the icing on the cake.

I worked at Norwich Airport as a Contractor for what was AirUK in the early nineties (KLM UK now). They had had two Land Rovers with cherry pickers bolted to the back (88" if I recall, might have been 109"'s?). One had been previously sold, but the other was there in about 1991-1992.

I often wondered what happened to them and how I would have liked to have bought the remaining one. I think they were used for de-icing work, but the remaining one hadn't been used for a while.

Taken from the catalogue...

The regular long-wheelbase Land Rover still didn’t have enough load capacity to satisfy some customers so a Forward Control with a longer load-bed was designed to satisfy this market niche.

The 2A Forward Control used a standard 109-inch chassis, engine and running gear hidden under the truck bodywork, with a new sub-frame bolted to the front of the chassis to carry the cab. The cab itself contained some new panels but made considerable use of standard Series 2A parts. The radiator was moved forwards and the fan driven by its own mini propshaft complete with two universal joints.

All this extra equipment added a lot of weight, the early Forward Controls gaining a reputation for being somewhat under-powered. This situation was rectified with the 2B introduced in 1966, an updated design which added an extra inch to the wheelbase allowing the 2.6-litre six-cylinder engine from the P4 to fit, although a new 2,286cc diesel option released at the same time must have been very hard work.

Most Forward Controls came with a drop-side body fitted to the rear, supported by a sub-frame of U-channel girders and uprights bolted to the chassis. The engine was accessible via a cover which intruded into the rear tray and the load area was large enough to carry a Series I 80". Total production is thought to have been no more than 3,193 making this a rare beast indeed.

The fourth 2B to come off the Solihull production lines, this example was initially supplied to Eastnor Castle Estate where it is understood to have worked until 1984 when it was first registered for the road. Originally painted grey, the vendor acquired it from the retirement sale of Alan Lloyd Tree Surgeon who was based in nearby Colwall.

The truck had been yard-bound for many years and was returned to running condition to take its place in a small collection of vintage tractors, plant and machinery. A BMC engine has been fitted in place of the original six-cylinder Land Rover unit and as can be seen on a clip of it operating on YouTube, this remarkable bit of kit does everything that it should.

Tax exempt and MOT exempt thanks to it being registered as a crane, this serious piece of machinery is more than capable of work, play or just display. The cherry picker on the rear raises and turns through 360 degrees, although it is many years since it has had a safety inspection and the vendor is at pains to point out that it will need a thorough engineering check over before use.

A veritable 'Swiss army knife', this rare and collectable Land Rover looks like a 'must have' bit of kit and is just the job for painting those gutters around the house, trimming overgrown trees or taking boy scouts out of horses hooves. 80" 80" 86" 88" 90"
