Injector seal replacement
Got the injector seals replaced yesterday. I had noticed the oil level rising a wee bit but thought that could have been my imagination - it was running fine, not smoking and in general I thought it was good. Got all the bits including a new injector harness from Dan at Duckworth and sent the motor to my local indie - the boys used to work for our local Rover / LandRover / Jaguar dealer before they pulled out of town. On getting it back, I could tell the difference even before I started the engine. The fuel pump was almost inaudible instead of having a wee whine and sounding as if there was air in the system as before. Once running, the engine sounded a bit quieter and is pulling very well. As I said, I didn't think there was much wrong with it before, but there is a noticeable difference now that the work has been done.
I've only had the motor for 10k miles / 18 months so I don't know how long to expect it to last before needing done again, but I'd encourage anyone with the Td5 to get it done if you see or hear any of the symptoms - more pleasurable motoring awaits. As an aside, my mpg figures were down a bit - 22 mpg towing on the motorway last time instead of the 26/27 I have had in the past. Hopefully it will help bring this figure back up.

It's not that bad a job, last time I did mine was on a camp site at Bala, I think the only reason it took around the 2 hours was because all the rest of the camping party wanted to come over and see how it was done Rolling Eyes

Not sure how many hours it was, but it was £180 which included a change of oil too which he supplied. As mentioned, I supplied all the bits including both oil filters. Maybe this is over the odds, I don't know, but it is outside my skill level and he's the local Landy guy so he got the job.

Anyone have a rough idea how long this lasts before needing done again? What about the wiring harness, I've heard of people making it a service item and doing it annually?

Mine was done around 120K and soon after by me as the eejit that did it used the cheapest he could find then again last year which was just under 180K. It's on 192000 miles now with no issues. Thumbs Up

I wanted to get the injector seals done on my TD5, but none of the local places wanted to do it, as it is running OK.
"You're opening a can of worms" said one, and "they might not re seal" plus "you might end up needing a new head"
The main dealer said l could end up with a bill for £3,000 and one of the lndys said they "didn't like to touch them"

I might do it myself. Is it easy to get the injectors out? The local lndy charges £50 to recover a broken Landy from a customer's drive!

Why, if things are okay, do you want to get them done? Are these things guaranteed to fail at some point?

I sold my Td5 with nearly 250,000 miles on the clock. It had a three exhaust manifolds, a new turbo, was on its third intercooler, its fourth fuel pressure regulator and innumerable injector harnesses. But the injector seals were never touched and it ran just fine.

If it's running okay with no symptoms of anything untoward, my advice is to leave it well alone. Dave
