Pebbles
So, BamBam was replaced with a L494 RRS, but it soon became clear that I can no longer bear to be without a Defender in my life. Cue vigorous petition of the other half for licence to buy a toy.

This is Pebbles on the day I drove her down to Kent from County Durham...

She's a 2004 TD5 which, before the rather resourceful previous owner got his hands on her, was a very tired blue hard top. Here's the before...

So the plan (promise) not to modify Pebbles lasted for all of 23 hours. First, genuine HD steels with 255/85s. The tyre shop installed them with the lettering facing out. I'm not sure we're still on speaking terms…

Then I buried that beautiful, but vulnerable, virgin bed with Line-X.

And gave it a facelift, with Noldens, a Nakatanenga heritage grille and some headlight shields from 4x4 Overlander.

Then some maintenance; the rusty radiator support brackets were replaced.

I managed to scratch another itch with the factory spare wheel bracket:

And here she is today:

Alas, I can't take any of the credit. The previous owner worked a minor miracle.

All of the panels besides the bulkhead are brand-new.

Joel Thumbs Up

Bow down

I think these two photos sum up why the Defender is/was different.
I wonder whether the next incarnation will be so flexible in layout and configuration.

Thank you chaps Thumbs Up

The TD5 was something of a shock after the 2.2, in particular on the long drive south, but we've settled back into a groove now. In fact, I have to make a conscious effort to use the RRS at all. The cab is snug, but it heats up reasonably quickly even with the TD5's "heater".

I cringe at the thought of stuffing filthy bikes into the back of the RRS - normal service has been restored Smile

Next steps? To try desperately to keep it like it is. Reasonably close to stock and retaining the classic aesthetic. The 130 had Lazers, huge mud tyres, a fairly decent stereo and a winch.

Pebbles doesn't need any of that.

Rolling with laughter

I agree with apt100.

A true thread on the wonders of a fantastic and versatile vehicle. A canvas that can live forever. Bravo that man (Ronin)

I just love a HiCap, had a red one for a few years, always liked the configuration. Had a canvas top on mine and could sleep in the back instead of taking a tent. A very versatile vehicle.
