LR Def 110 electric winch
Hi Forum,

i have been reading multiple sites on winches and i think i am more confused than before. I am seeking a recovery winch (front mount) for the 97 110 station wagon. (dual batteries installed).
At this time i dont do much off-roading but i want the peace of mind that if push comes to shove i can winch myself outta trouble.

the car is mostly stock standard build (few extras as roll cage, larger rims/tyres and upgraded bumpers etc..) and i live in a tropical climate - so water is a constant as well as rubber /plastic breakdown and rust just from the elements (ant corrosion and water proof i guess is best)

from research i see around 4000-5700 lb is in the ball park ?

also looking for a low profile mount- given the temp and hill I dont want the restrict air flow to the radiator in any way if possible

experience and guidance approacuted

5700 lbs is way too low, but I think you confuse lbs with kilos.
The standard Warn winch for the Defender (VPLDP0113) as offered by LR is for a capacity of 9500 lbs, or 4310 kilo. Some also install a 12.000 lbs winch.
There are others on here who are much bigger winch experts than me, so they may kick in.
One thing, as you say Singapore is a high humidity environment all year round, and those Warn winches are very prone to rusting over time as I see from those who have one here. You probably don't want a steel cable but a plasma rope there.
Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

^ As Eric says, 9500 lbs is the standard capacity. I installed this Superwinch Talon 9500i last year, I do not have personal experience with Warn but what I see and hear from others is that they are overrated for their price. I choose plasma rope because it is safer and easier in use.

It's almost a year on now, still as new - but then I regular give it a coat of blank waxoyl and keep it under a neoprene cover. Cheers, Vincent

a TDS from goodwinch, its waterproof for starters and can have uprated tie bars to avoid corrosion. Cheers
