Oh wow, you have given me some inspiration with my 1950 project. Less work on the bulkhead for me and more on the chassis. May I ask where you got your engine work done? Mine had a 1948 straight six from a P2 in it but it is well rusted up.I have a 1600 block, crank and head that needs machining.

I had the crank ground by Southern rebore services, the rest was just a full strip and rebuild by myself.
Luckily the 1600 was In quite good nick, minimal bore wear, it had already been re bored at some point to +40 thou. Great looking project you have there, I must admit I couldn't do another series 1! Doing 2 back to back with no break in between took it's toll! JOW, I'm going to have some fun with a series 3 truck cab next. Going to go old school V8... It's time for me to do things how I want, and not how it should be done. Plus they are much cheaper on the parts. Will start a thread on that one in a few weeks, just need to get this 80" all wrapped up! Good luck with the project. 80" 80" 86" 88" 90" Wanted, Forward Control Anything considered. |

Greeni,
Thanks for your offer of the V8 After a quick poke around mine it looks to be in great condition, and a good runner so will be sticking with it (for now!) Cheers 80" 80" 86" 88" 90" Wanted, Forward Control Anything considered. |

Ian, not sure if it's common knowledge, but what's your background? How did you get in to restorations, are they a hobby or a business, do you sell them on? Just curious, so hope it's not too nosey? James

I left school and went to work at a body shop, I did a 4 year apprenticeship in car body repair.
I did quite a bit of paint work too, although it never really interested me like the repairing side. Mechanicals just came along naturally, again gaining a few qualifications along the way I've always been interested in engines, and machinery I got that from my dad, he work for an agricultural engineering firm. Between us we have done quite a few projects over the years, tractors, stationary engines, TR6, Range Rover, various other Land Rovers the list could go on! I maintain and repair plant equipment for the arborcultral industry now, so i get to work on some interesting kit. But always had a passion for old Land a Rovers. 80" 80" 86" 88" 90" Wanted, Forward Control Anything considered. |
