FIFA decision is nuts
FIFA decision to ban the wearing of poppies on the UK national football teams shirts is nuts.

They have 3 grounds for banning symbols/logos

1) Political. The poppy is non political symbol. In the UK most members of parliament wear the poppy of most political parties

2) Religious. The poppy is non religious and at the National Rememberance service leaders of vastly different religions take part.

3) Commercial. OK a nit picking lawyer might argue that funds for poppies go to the British Legion which is a charity is a 'commercial' operation.

Basically I hope that the national teams wear the poppies on that weekend (up to the individual player) and that all the professional teams playing that weekend wear the poppy (white or red). Hopefully the supporters will wear the poppy with pride as well.

Now if the groundsmen could mark the centre circle with a big poppy it might be a case of showing FIFA what the UK public think.

Maybe FIFA should put their own house in order first!

I think a massive poppy in the centre circle is probably the perfect solution. Perhaps all the advertising around the pitch should also be poppies.

I think the problem we all have is being told to not do something close to ours hearts by such a corrupt organisation. However rules are rules so find a way around the rules. Is the rule about wearing it on the kit only?

Let's hope our lads don't listen and do what's correct and wear them.

I've heard the FA have announced they will go ahead regardless!! Mr. Green

(Not that I have the faintest interest in football, but never the less it was the RIGHT thing to do.) KEEP CALM AND Drill ON

England players will wear poppies when they play Scotland on Remembrance Sunday next week despite a Fifa regulation banning them from doing so, the Football Association has confirmed.

In a statement released on Wednesday night, the FA make it clear that the governing body intends to pay "an appropriate tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice".

"The poppy is an important symbol of remebrance and we do not believe it represents a political, religious or commercial message, nor does it relate to any one historical event," FA said.

"In keeping with the position agreed with Fifa back in 2011 and in what we believe is in accordance with Law 4, para 4, the FA intend to pay appropriate tribute to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice by having the England team wear black armbands bearing poppies in our fixture on Armistice Day."

GOOD!

I am not active politically, have not been involved with the military either. Nor am I a fan of football!

I believe the Poppy is a symbol of rememberance, NOT just of the military but also of the civilians who lost their lives in various conflicts on all sides.

It is important that we remember.

FIFA are well known throughout the world for their honesty, transparency, impartiality and above all, incorruptibility. I'm sure it would'nt occur to the (mainly European led) hierarchy of FIFA to have a sly dig at the UK because we voted to eff them off.

Also apparently lots of other things on Farcebook that are obviously made up.

Sir Roger Moore made a good point the other day on Radio 2.

Quote:
"Bond legend Sir Roger, 89, blasted Fifa, saying: “A poppy isn’t a political statement, it is respect”.

He added: “Fifa’s president is Swiss, its ex-president was also Swiss. They’ve been neutral for 400 or 500 years, so they don’t have any feelings about what it means to be killed or invalided by war.”

He made a point of saying as an ambassador for Unicef they have to be very careful about making political statements or wearing certain things but poppy's are an agreed mark of respect for the fallen. Therefore do not come under this.

To be honest I think its more Fifa being annoyed they cannot somehow find a way of asking for a bribe or make money off the sponsorship from it Rolling Eyes

I think everyone who wants to should wear one. Those who do not should also be allowed not to. Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197

Who do FIFA think they are to tell us not wear poppies on football kits? Those corrupt, cowardly, bribe taking, untrustworthy sods would not be in a position to dictate anything if the brave British and allied soldiers had not lost their lives or suffered terrible injuries liberating Europe from the Third Reich. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..
