Security - cameras
Well, sooner or later it was going to happen, and our time came on Saturday night - the little scrotes broke into the house and ransacked the place. Thankfully we were away in the Landy so it came to no harm, but it has unnerved me to the point of considering cameras.

I've looked in all the usual places and to be honest I'm lost as to what is a good set up.

Ideally I'd want:

- remote access from phone
- cloud based recording so if they nick the data recording we still have the stuff on the cloud
- motion detection? does this actually work?
- decent quality footage, so you can actually ID the little scrotes
- preferably wireless (i.e. just requires power)

Any advice?

Thanks, chaps...

I have several wireless Axis cameras with PIR detection running. Footage is stored on a Synology NAS (running Surveillance Station software) but could be stored or back-upped to the cloud. There are Synology apps for iOs and Android, I can view the live streams and recorded footage on the phone, tablet or computer.
The system is running several years now without any problems! Thumbs Up Cheers, Vincent

I have a series of Hikvision cameras linked to one of their turbo range dvrs…easy to set up and the remote access is very good. Little more pricey than the ranges you get on the DIY market but I can't fault the picture quality and would highly recommend.

I had a Samsung dvr previously and I had no end of trouble getting the remote access to work. Make sure you get a system that supports cloud p2p as this drastically simplifies the remote viewing setup and avoids port forwarding complications. Spend plenty of time setting the system up securely and changing all the factory passwords

Hope this helps…

Busboy,

Can't speak for Darcy but I am a director of a small Security Company that does CCTV and Alarm systems.

PM me if you want more details or to talk.
