LT230 1.4 ratio on PUMA
Hi all PUMA users!

I just destroyed my Transfer LT230 on my 2.4 PUMA 2009. I will replace it but I have got the choice of changing the ratio. Stock ratio is 1.211 and I ask to myself if it should be a good thing to install a 1.410 ratio for my heavyloaded (3300kgs) and remaped with bigger intercooler (175 horsepower)TD4.

If any of you has a feedback of a 2.4 with 1.410 ratio LT230 it should be nice.

I think a 1.4 on a Puma will make the gears very short. 1st will almost become totally redundant.

Unless your really struggling, I'd leave it as 1.2 and do the tweaks you suggested and see how it goes.

Puma, on a 1.4, plus a remap etc, I think you'd quickly regret!

I don't think running bigger tires than 33'

That's why I wanted to know if someone allready has a feedback with 1.4 ratio on puma. I don't want to regret after ordering.

I occasionally have the need to tow atleast ( Very Happy Thumbs Up ) 3.5 tons with @ 175bhp although it's the torque you need. This include some good grades, standard transfer box is all you need! With six gears easy with still a good turn of speed for the highway! Very Happy

The reason why I was hesitating is because I used the ratio calculator on ashcroft website. They tell that the ideal range is 2700 rpm at 70mph on 6th gear. But with the 1.2 and 33 tires is only 2269 rpm at 70mph on 6th gear. With the 1.4 and 33 tires is 2642rpm at 70 mph on 6th gear.

About my personal experience on 6th gear on highway with my actual setup I was around 2000 rpm at 62 mph on 6th and around 2500 rpm at 75mph. So I m far away the ideal 2700 preconized by ashcroft.

I apologize if i derail the thread of the OP but is there a ratio option to below the stock to get taller gearing?
Itd be great to be able to sit at 130kph and chew less juice

Not sure you will use less juice but there is a 1.003 ratio on ashcroft website but it s out of stock...

I imagine that it would be almost undrivable on normal size wheels and tyres.

The standard ratios are well matched to the TDCi engine.

i regularly tow 3.5T with a 1.2 box on a 2.4puma. if the t box went with my 33" tyres i would replace with 1.2 again. mine runs outside the ideal rev range no problem at 60 on the motorway Cheers

Been up too 140 km/h ( on a private road towing...wink.) same RPM as not towing. However I am well aware that it takes some stopping ! Very Happy Thumbs Up Whistle

it actually tows better at 65 than 60 apparently as its sits in the torque range better Cheers
