When to change fuel filter?
From maintenance records it seems as if my 90s fuel filter was last changed 40000km ago so it's probably time. I've drained the filter and all looks surprisingly clean. Would this be an indication that the filter is still good or is the cleanliness of the drained stuff immaterial to the condition of the filter?

Immaterial .. Thats because the filter is doing it's job. most of the crud and particles filtered will be stuck in the filter matting.

Fuel filter replacement is a B service item, i.e every other service [ 24K miles - 39K kms ]

It's due replacing Smile Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant.

Thanks, that was my hunch as well - stick to the schedule (although I'd change them more frequently than 40k)

Have a new filter ready for this weekend Wink 2012 Discovery SDV6

I change mine every 10K with my oil and oil filter and air filter due to third world "Euro 4" spec diesel.

I have had diesel cars since the late 80's and always change the fuel filter with the oil and other filters.

My defender gets a full service every 4-6000 mile. And has done since Day 1

Service book is full and now on the the second service book at 79000 mile.

Oil change, Oil filter and Fuel filter, all genuine filters with Fuchs Oil, and in my opinion it shows as the engine is quiet as a mouse (noisy td5 mouse) and is in great health.

I had to change 3 in 20 km after getting some "interesting" fuel from an Italian petrol station....

This was drained from a 2-3km old filter at the roadside.... Crying or Very sad
