I have recently fitted a complete stainless system together with decat pipe and getting rid of the rear silencer at the same time. Apparently there are mixed opinions if there is a requirement to refit the heatshield post decat fitment primarily due to the extra space vacated by the catalytic converter and the fact the engine runs cooler. If you choose to refit subsequent refitting of the heatshield can be awkward as there is nothing to secure the lower edge of the heatshield to on the decat pipe. I have been requested by the manufacturer to 'get a feel' as to what everybody else has done with regards to the heatshield and whether a heatshield securing point on the decat pipe would be possibly deemed as beneficial. Was going to put up a poll but personal views are better. I shall simply send on the link to this thread afterwards. Thank you very much!!!
Without wishing to influence decision making I personally feel a heatshield irrespective of whether it is deemed necessary is better than not having one at all. I am thinking of getting rid of the cat on mine to enhance the ecu upgrade and i must say that i was rather suprised that the bracket isn't in place for the heat shield. Heat shields are there for a reason and I won't be buying one until i find one with the bracket in place. If anyone knows where i can get one with, i'd be pleased to know. 130 crew cab

To be honest I don't see why the heatshield should be necessary ince the cat's gone - the cat will be far hotter than the stright through pipe that replaces it.
When cats became standard the amount of heat that they generate fooled many people, which is why people were parking in long grass etc and they seeing their cars catch fire. It would be intersting to hear from anyone who's binned the heatshield whether there have been any problems as a result. |

Thanks for the replies, I know Fekete also refitted his heatshield! I suppose there are arguments for and against! I didn't want to run the risk of potential damage to the bonnet paintwork and decided too it was better to refit! I also see the logic behind non-refitment too!
