I looked at the 2.8 unit but decided to go for a rebuilt Turners 300tdi with performance head and a VGT turbo. I think I probably get close to the power of a 2.8 unit with the tweaks I have done. The main reason I stuck with the 300tdi was keeping it as close to standard as possible and also cost.
I have the auto kit from Ashcrofts and really like it. It is a very different Defender with an auto. The only thing I would say is that it needs enough power to run the auto. Either a 2.8 or a tuned 300tdi. I wouldn't run it with anything less as I think it is too sluggish. Ashcrofts are a top firm and were great with the whole order/delivery/technical advice. |

I looked at fitting the 2.8 tgv, but then decided I would use the proven 2.8 iveco from a Santana PS10, then changed my mind as I could not find out if it used the same bellhousing as the LT85 from the V8 (the Santana runs a LT85 transmission). In the end I went for a tuned 300tdi, but am still in the process of fitting it.
Still want to know if the Santana LT85 is the same as the Rover LT85 if anyone knows. Good luck 80" 1948 Lightweight V8 Bowler Tomcat 130 Station wagon 90 300tdi (Santana PS10 pick up) Range Rover L322 (Ful fat) |

i have two 2.8TGVs both with autos.
i fitted both these lumps and gboxs to the vehicles. one runs a 4.0TC inside a std HP22 box, gbox runs a laminova and a D2 td5 auto gbox air to oil cooler with Alisport Intercooler and std sized rad with viscous. the other runs a 4.6TC inside the larger 4.6 bellhousing mated to an ashcroft HP22/24 amalgamated 'Monster box' i had the box new from them approx 5 years ago (i could look it up) i run an Allisport V8 custom made rad with Pacet twin elec fans in own shroud switch on thermostat with larger Intercooler. The latter (with 4.6TC) is for sale, well the whole vehicle is for sale currently, i have a possible buyer for the axles so rest of vehicle is up for grabs and it can be split - ie Box, engine, intercooler rad etc. Cheers James 110 2012 XS Utility 130 2011 M57 bespoke Camper 90 2010 Hardtop 90 M57 1988 Hardtop |

Hi Alex1976, just a couple questions, A. did you get your Turner engine second hand or from Turners ? B. if you got your engine from Turners, did you put the VGT on after the warranty expired ? Many thanks 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up.

I got my Turners unit brand new from Turners. I built it up with a new BAS VGT unit and tweaked pump etc from new. It has been absolutely fine and now has 46K miles on it and running smoother than ever.
