2002 Defender 110 Td5 DCPU Keswick Green

New CV joint required, which brand?

After a small mis-calculationumber this afternoon I now need a new CV joint. There is no way I am paying ~£700 for genuine and I cannot afford ashcroft ones but paying 25quid for a blue box specialike doesn't really appeal either!
Does anyone have a suggestion for brands/sources for some? Have seen some QDRIVE onest but not sure about the quality.

FWIW, I had the same quandary - balked at the genuine price and the 'Britpart experience' at the other end. Went with bearmach on this one, which included the halfshafts already connected.

Units still waiting to be installed (spline wear at flange was the reason), but they appear solid, fine where they need to be and rough where it doesn't matter (maybe the posh LR stamped ones are the same anyway?

).

Of course, it doesn't mean much if they're just on the shelf, but by all accounts at the various outlets I rang to source them, they are closer to genuine than Britpart in terms of quality.

As an aside, the genuine cost doesn't directly correlate to a 1:1 proportional increased lifetime, so ignoring the issue of failure in a remote location causing $$ issues, Britpart actually makes more 'sense' - but that's a pretty sad approach, which I'll only reflect on (and never promote).

Bearmach splits the difference in terms of the standard spec.

As an aside to the aside, why aren't the flanges designed as a purposeful point of failure? Look at that the diameter of the shaft! The basic flange sits there waiting for potential reinstallation, while you're having to deal with a much more expensive CV joint (in all regards: material/mass, manufacturing tolerance, installation/access past stub axle). Maybe I missed something obvious? With a steel wheel, you could immediately see a flange failure, whip it off, then grab your spare from the seat box. Maybe even continue driving (?) Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants...

I have a brand new in box genuine LR drive shaft complete with CV joint £150. 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..

It is 24 spline O/S with ABS but will fit non ABS i think.
£12 via courier. 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..
