You should get a nice 90 TD5 for that sort of money. Ideally go for a late model say 2005/06. Make sure you inspect or have it inspected thoroughly as there are a lot of tarted up vehicle out there. Main things to check are the chassis and bulkhead and will be good if the vehicle has a good / comprehensive service history. Take your time, there are lots of vehicles for sale so lots to choose from.

Hi Defender 9. This is part of my problem. The AA / RAC don't do vehicle checks over here so getting one checked is a bit of a problem. Found an independent landrover specialist called beyond performance who might do an independent check. Does anyone over here know anything about them ? Also ........ and this might be a bit of a sacrilege to experts but .... any thoughts on doing an lpg conversion ?

Hi, you won't get a late td5 for your budget, probably better to look for a nice solid tdi model from 91-98. Easier to work on, no electronic controls, just check for rust rust rust, chassis and the bulkhead that the dash and wings connect to. Don't bother with lpgon a diesel. Probably better popping over the water and taking one back, more choice and better prices?... Best to buy on condition not age..
Good luck and have fun looking!!.. Cheers. Alex 98 300 tdi 90 project 94 Range Rover vogue 4.2 lse 79 911 sc 08 130 double cab utility |

If its just a 2nd car and you don't actually NEED it, it is probably not the best time to buy. Prices are still inflated due to the production ceasing, and in addition prices always creep up heading into winter.
If you can wait, you may get more for your money next April onwards... |
