Worrying bursting noise
Yesterday I was cruising to work, I had done 14miles up the A41 at 60mph then was wandering through country lanes to the office, on a nice long straight I gently got up to 50mph when there was a lod pop and a hissing which dissipated after around 30 seconds!

I initially thought a tyre, being a 110 SW I run 48psi in the rears as specified. But there was no tack-tack-tacking from any object and all tyres and pressures appear fine.

However coming home downhill on the A41 the motor was struggling with foot to the floor to make 70mph and falling back on uphills. I will add that it was the hottest day of the year !

Last month I had the EGR deleted and a remap. The 110 has been driving superbly since then, cruising at 70 with plenty of oomph.

This morning on the drive to work all feels well though I used another route and it is pulling well.

I cant see anything visibly but have not had the opportunity for a good look under the bonnet.

I am wondering if the higher boost pressures and temps of the remap may have cracked an intercooler end cap

Any ideas people? He who dies with the most toys wins Smile

Intercooler pipe/hose would be my first thought.

if it is the hoses, this should fix it

I have just been outside and popped the top off the engine and had a look at the hoses, unfortunately I cannot see anything suspicious

Well, a pop followed by a whoosh can only be a fairly high-volume pressurised thing failing and depressurising, which narrows it down to tyres (you'd have noticed), charge air circuit (intercooler or related pipework), or cooling system (you'd probably have noticed). I can't really see what else it could be, unless you ran over a plastic bottle.

The intercooler pipes are a well-known problem on the TDCi (hence the comments above) and often you can have a pipe which superficially looks fine but has a split which opens up under pressure, resulting in poor performance and a hissing or farting noise.

If the intercooler itself had ruptured I would not expect the performance ever to improve, whereare if you have a hose/pipe malfunction it may be that it is OK up to a certain boost pressure, when it releases rather like a safety valve.

I would be inclined to "fondle" the hoses to feel for soft spots and other defects which are not visible to the naked eye or are in areas you can't see before ruling them out.

Blackwolf - that is exactly what happened to me. MR LR Assistance man could not find any leak etc until we 'fondled' each pipe and then found a split that only opened under quite a bit pressure. Superglue and gaffer tape got me home.

Yeah, AC fine.

There was nothing on the road.

Its one of those annoying noises that at an Landy driver you lock ont as something that should not be there.

What does worry me is the poor high speed performance last night when it failed to pull 70 uphill. I had just started getting used to all the new power, it was almost as perky as the wifes TDCi.

I'm going to keep monitoring it on my regular hills, lets see how it goes up Ivinghoe Beacon tonight He who dies with the most toys wins Smile

Kuwait
I once had a HUGE bang from the rear, was googling stuff like 'can diesels backfire' and similar, spent ages looking under the vehicle and engine.

Most likely in my mind now, is that kids were throwing stones from a bridge i was passing under, nice ding in the roof found months later.

Doesn't explain your hiss though... Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants...
