How much boost can a stock 200tdi discovery engine take?
Hi guys, I recently got hold of an almost direct replacement turbo for the 200tdi, capable of 30+psi. Does anyone here run that kind of boost pressure and if so, any issues with the head lifting/ gasket failing? Cheers guys will post a few pictures when I put the turbo in if anyone's curious. Shocked Cool

Standard tdi runs about 1bar or roughly 14.5psi. If you want to increase boost pressure you need to look at fueling, larger intercooler, performance air filter, exhaust mods etc. It's not just a case of turning up the boost. There is plenty of info on tdi tuning around. If you do go down that route get a egt fitted as tdi's are sensitive to high exhaust gas temps, that's when things start to melt/ fail and get expensive. As with all tuning it increase's stress on the engine and other components but plenty have done it without problems and the tdi is a fairly solid lump. Mine runs 20psi boost with tweaked fueling, straight through exhaust, silicon hoses, k&n filter without any problems, doesn't smoke like a tractor and has a decent egt.
