They are the same engines horus, even the manifolds. It's the 200tdi that is different between defender and discovery.
Hope that helps Mo The Land Rover 90 - Many are called, few are chosen. 50 Shades of Pennine Grey |

What's the difference for the 200tdi please?
I know that the exhaust manifold is different due to the turbo location, but is anything else different? |

@Blackwolf
The inlet and exhaust/turbo manifolds Timing case, additionally less the timing belt idler Injection pump brackets to suit lower FIP position Injector pipes Dipstick and tube Power steering pump Power steeing pump bracket Alternator bracket All the intercooler pipework The airbox Apart from that they're pretty much identical 😊 HTH Mo The Land Rover 90 - Many are called, few are chosen. 50 Shades of Pennine Grey |

Thank you, very comprehensive answer!
I imagine that if one was considering retro-fitting a 200tdi into a series vehicle, an ex-Defender 200tdi is a better prospect than an ex-Disco version? |

Well they'll both work but the defender version will use all standard parts which always makes things easier. 😊
