I'm not a fan of Top Gear but they posted a useful summary of Gordon Murray's new vehicle the Ox.
http://www.topgear.com/car-news/big-reads/...save-world Reading it, I couldn't help but wonder what could be if someone with the brain like Gordon was behind the reborn Defender. Give it a read before you judge but the design is very very clever. |

Is it just me or are there a number of parallels to the orginal land rovers?
If it was going to be road legal over here it would almost be fun to own one. 1995 300 Tdi Epsom Green - It's a keeper. Wide Track Sankey- In bits- Gone to a new home M0XQS |

Would be fun to be able to buy one as a 'kit car'; could be road legal here too then I'd imagine? Pete

It looks like the spawn of the union of a 101FC Landrover with a Sooty van!
Good idea though! Not sure it'd pass EU crash tests. |

Reminded me of the "car for Africa" that was devoloped in the eighties and built from reinforced ply for local markets to assemble.

I saw that in the paper but I'm sure this isn't new. I have a funny feeling it appeared a few years ago and then disappeared.
Edit: yes, same name, same idea three years ago: http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/mo...17814.html http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars...st-vehicle |

Yep, the Africar was the first thing that came to my mind when I heard about the Ox on the radio a day or two back. Steve. Owned numerous Land Rover vehicles of all shapes and sizes over the decades. Current Defender: A non tarts hand-bagged Puma 110 XS USW. [Insert something impressive here such as extensive list of previous Land Rovers or examples of your prestigeous and expensive items, trinkets, houses, bikes, vehicles etc] http://forums.lr4x4.com I used to be Miserable ...but now I'm ecstatic. |

I remember the Africar. there was a tv program about its development and it used Citroen 2cv running gear if i remember correctly and you could get 4x4 or 6x6

Yes it did use Citroen running gear, I think they ran put of money before building any 4x4 or 6x6 variants.
There are a few bits on you tube about it. 2005 Td5 90 XS Steve |

Just popped up on twitter and looks in good condition. Always wondered how they would fare long term?

Proud to say I worked on Ox doing engine calibration and some chassis component engineering before I moved on from my previous job.
It is indeed an awesome bit of kit. Wouldn't want to daily drive one, or drive one a long distance but what's been achieved regards flat packing it and price point is really impressive. Payload capacity and space is huge. Only thing they suffered from if memory serves is the same as 101 forward controls.... a bit tippy driving down steep slopes when unladen. I know the blue one in the press pictures very well |
