If that doesn't work, take the plate off the top off the pedal box (engine bay, on the bulk head directly above the clutch assembly) and squirt some teflon lube directly onto the master cylinder push rod.
I was squirting GT85 all over the inside of the footwell for a week and getting more and more frustrated, did the above and sorted it instantly. Get a decent platform to stand on though as the lower screws for the pedal box cover are below the line of site, doing them back up is a ball ache if done by feel. |

Thanks guys... I'm off to Halfords this evening to get some silicone spray, if that doesn't work I'll try plan B and get that plate off.

I doused the squeaky area with silicone spray and it helped, but it soon came back.
I realised that I'm partly to blame, as I have been pressing the clutch at slight angle. This must cause the spring to bind a little bit - thus producing the squeak. I've always driven like this, but the Defender is the first vehicle to complain about it! |

Removing the several screws out of the clutch master cylinder cover plate and spraying the whole lot inside with deep penetrating spray did it for me. Clutch is now as smooth as silk. Do expect to have to do it again in a few months though, just one of those things. Hop up to stand on essential as previously stated, screws are out of line of sight if stood on the ground.
Stick a cloth under your clutch pedal if your lube is runny - it will run down your pedal to the inside of the vehicle. I consider myself an auto bafoon and rarely lift the bonnet to look inside but managed this with no issues. |

6 screws, a bit of patience and an good bit of lubricant and the squeak is gone! Next time it comes back I will flood the compartment with grease. Is there anything bad in using grease in the master cylinder compartment? I believe it should make the anti-squeak procedure more long term.
Thanks guys, ciao |

Grease is fine but keep it well away from the master cylinder as it could well mess up the rubber dustcover and seals. Steve.

http://www.defender2.net/forum/post263911.html You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Wise words. I've slathered the inside of the box with grease, lithium grease, 3 in 1, WD40, Teflon spray and silicone spray over the last few months trying to stop the squeaking. Now I'm getting clutch fluid dripping onto the floormat. Could be co-incidence but I doubt it. 2003 Td5 110 Hardtop Now a 2013 110 USW too. |
