Willy, just noticed something in your quote

One of the best quotes I got. Also worth speaking to Land Rover Yeovil, they do a decent price.

THE VEHICLE
Make & Model: Land Rover Defender 110 County Utility
Registration: New
Mileage: 0
Colour: Please State
Options: Metallic Paint, Cold Climate Pack
Price: £21,015.00+ VAT + RFL

QUALITY AND PREPARATION
Your vehicle will be prepared to the highest standards, including a pre delivery inspection and
valet before deliver / collection.
Condition: New
Warranty: Land Rover 3 Year
BACKGROUND / PAYMENT
Previous Owners None
Service History: PDi done
HPI Check: Not required as new
Road Fund Licence: 12 months to be added to the pre VAT price

They can not make up their mind how to deal with RFL

First they add the RFL to the post VAT price then they change their mind and add it to the pre VAT price!

In the second option you would pay VAT on the RFL! As far as I am aware the first option is correct.

In general we do not pay tax on tax (except we pay VAT on fuel duty!)

Good spot, the quote was from Direct Vehicle Sales for info. Must admit I made an equiry but took a while to get a response, also they never really followed it up to see if I was interested etc. Same for BCAV who said they would get back to me and never did, hence I went elsewhere. The best quotes were from Yeovil land Rover who added in extras and were genuinely interested and helpful.

PS ever over our way call in for a chat and a coffee / beer.

Just to make you all jealous I bought a Nov 2008 7 seat 110 XS SW with mats, adjustable towbar, metallic paint, personal plate transfer and a year's road tax for £20932 + vat.

The salesman had based his price on a County which was the price used for our haggling and didn't realise until 5 minutes after I had signed the order and paid the deposit. By that stage it was too late to rectify his mistake. He did try but I referred him to my Solicitor! 2009 110 XS

Glyn 19k is just not fair Crying or Very sad When you sell does the VAT have to be paid?

I have called Yoevil/Edendridge/Park Royal to see what they can do off the list price of a basic SW to get some idea. NFU is £187 membership ouch! May be able to haggle a discount without that - we'll see, looking at the end of this year to buy so no rush.

Would like a 110 SW but need to check the commercial status of it against tax. They allowed me to do this on my old TD5 SW if I took the seats out of the back. I know a guy that has a SW for his towing business without any probs. I'll get it in writing from the tax man first though!

All this talk of massive discounts and dealer admin errors is depressing me...

I think list between Mar 2008 (when i started looking) and Oct (when I bought) was around £30,500 with the 7 seats and tow-pack (for the XS).

I paid a lot less as the dealers were having a panicky 'all must go' weekend, but not as little as £20k!!! Rolling Eyes 1953 80

The only rule to the TAX free sales we have is that I have to won the car for a year before I am able to sell it (I have already owned it for 19 months so could sell and buy again if I wanted).

There has to be preks to living out here..... not to mention 80p a litre of fuel and £400 overseas allowance.... Then again I wouldn';t be able to afford a Defender if I didn't have all those perks.

So you could sell at market value in a year and not lose anything! It's about time you moved yours on Glen and I bought it at the price you payed minus normal depreciation Laughing

Got any mates that are struggling to make payments on their new one Whistle

Haha, nice try.... but what about the wheels, tyres, cage, dual battery, split charge, dvd player, winch, bumper, belly protection etc?

I was looking at selling and going D4 about 6 months ago but now I am going Cyprus I would be a mug to let it go.... besides it is worth a damn sight more out there Very Happy

I can get 20% off as i work for Tata, but it has to be in my name for a year.

They have stopped doing the discount on freelanders as they cant keep up with demand.
Dont think i will be taking up the 20% off as they pay us next to newt anyway!

One lad at work got quite excited and wanted a D4 HSE, until i told him how much!

Only one quote through and only 6% off - can do better than that - I think ex demos will be a better deal in the end and will probably end up haggling on one of them when were ready to chew the fat! I do love a good haggle Very Happy

Getting a summer job cleaning at Tata might work.

TC I'm always in a blimmen hole Laughing Best place to be most of the time! Shocked could have phrased that better Whistle Steady!
