England 2005 Defender 110 Td5 XS CSW Cairns Blue
So near but then so far from acceptance by SWMBO
SWMBO was not best impressed when I rolled up just before christmas in my new 'toy'. Her reasons being that it lacks any refinement and is basically a tractor with extra seats. Personally, I think she's most miffed that it's the same colour as her Disco.

For a short moment during a telephone conversation yesterday afternoon, I thought I'd finally broken her.......

Her: I've just nearly been run off the road by a Defender!
Me : Wow - 90 or 110?

Silence.......

Me : Sorry....... are you okay ?
Her: Yes, but it went hurtling past me as I was coming into the village. Driving like a looney. I've seen that bloke before around here, think he lives in Padbury.
Me: 90 or 110?
Her: Eh?
Me: A short one or a long one? (apologies to 130 owners... didn't take it to.... or a VERY long one)
Her: Long one like yours. I didn't realise they could go THAT fast.
Me: (Jumping on the opportunity) He's probably had his re-mapped then. It makes a HUGE difference to performance and economy, particularly on the type of engine I've got in mine.
Her: Are you going to have that done on yours?

(Wooooohooooooooo !!!!!!!!!)

Me : Yes I plan to (GET IN!) - I'm looking into it.

(So I've now got no objections to throwing a bit more cash at the truck, so then I went in for the kill...... schoolboy error)

Me : It will be great, once I've had that done we can then use her for longer trips, perhaps down to your Dads. I know you didn't like the idea of trundling down the motorway at 60.

Her: Oh no, there's still no way I'd go anywhere too far in it...... It's got no airbags Big Cry

So.......... on the plus side...... I can get her remapped in due course. All I need now please is an industrial sized roll of bubble wrap, pillows and chicken wire and then I reckon I can fashion an internal 'soft cell' for her.

Either that or just tell her to naff off and I'll continue to drive it Whistle In fact, perhaps it's not such a bad thing afterall !

Edit.... For the benefit of our friends the boys in blue, clearly, I am just looking to 'trundle' down the motorway at no more than 70 once she's remapped Jon - 110 td5 [sold]. Currently Defenderless.

Two questions,

1. Did the vehicle and bloke seem familiar because it may have been you running her off the road?

2. Is yours a 2011MY defender? Russell
