[SOLD] Superbly Restored Defender 50th Anniversary

Now that I've returned from holiday and bought a new Motorhome Embarassed, I really must sell my 50th Anniversary Defender.

These cars are increasing in value and should be a great investment rather than the usual depreciating 'asset'.

This model was produced in 1998 to mark the 50th anniversary of Land Rover. Only 385 were made for the UK market and only 192 remain on DVLA records.

The car was produced only in Atlantis Blue with a magnificent V8 engine and automatic gearbox - the first and only time Land Rover built this combination in a Defender which makes it a rare and most desirable beast. It produces 190 bhp and a max speed of 99 mph (electronically limited as tyres only rated to this speed!)

GB063 is a superb Simon Durant full restoration and, not only was it restored by Simon to his usual high standards, but it was also owned by him at the time, so you can imagine that he was extra fastidious in bringing her back to a better than new factory standard with no expense spared.

In addition, it is one of the somewhat rarer 50ths on a 1999 ‘T’ plate rather than the more numerous 1998 ‘S’ plates. Its (original) registration number of T63 BSO complements the edition number of GB 063.
Under Simon’s hand, GB 063 had the following:

• A full respray
• Re-powder coated Roll Cage
• Re-powder coated NAS rear step
• Re-powder coated steering guard
• New bumper
• New A bar
• New head lamp surrounds
• New radiator grill
• New chequered plate Wing tops, Sides, Rear 1/4s and NAS step
• New rear fog light
• New reversing light
• New number plate light
• New rubbers on all windows
• New windscreen
• New sliding rear windows
• Tip top Seats from another 50th
• New tyres
• Refurbished alloys
• New pads and discs
• Replaced manifolds and gaskets
• stainless steel bolts on all door hinges even the front air vent hinges
• New stainless steel bulkhead bolts
• New stainless steel bumper bolts front and rear
• New rear seat stainless steel bolts
• 1001 other new stainless bolts
• New mud flaps front and rear
• New shocks front and rear
• New steering damper
• Wax oiled
• New exhaust system from the cat back
• New 50th V8 decals

As luck would have it, after Simon’s ownership, it fell into the hands of another real enthusiast who set about making it even better by fitting:

• A Mark Adams chip
• A Mantec swing away spare wheel carrier
• Silicone hoses
• Original Land Rover driving lamps
• Aluminium front door hinges
• Chrome rear door and bonnet hinges
• Chrome air intake
• Croytec aluminium instrument surrounds
• Under bonnet detailing

The car has covered 89,000 miles with a full service history. Services have been carried out at 6000, 12164, 23,967, 35876, 40000, 45937, 49562, 56311, 67515, 72000, 80909 and 85000 miles, all of which are stamped in the Service Record. Since then, services are evidenced by invoices at 86500, 87195, 88273 and 88897 miles. It is MOT'd until July 2017.

GB 063 is offered for sale at £36,000 which represents great value for money for what is one of the best 50ths around.

The car is now available for viewing at Motodrome near Reading.

That's a lot of money. No takers?

I'd put the 2 blue hoses in the bin, sell the chrome air box and spend that money on some stainless jubilee clips and refresh all the hoses with genuine.

It looks lovely, but under the bonnet isn't great, it looks like the kind of thing Corsa kids would do. At £38k people look look a little closer than normal.

Re- powder coated rear step?

Not meant to offend, just saying what would stop me from buying it.

Thanks Greeni

I guess if you had the cash, changing the other bits would be peanuts.

But, a cunning plan! I could just remove the under bonnet pictures. Then there's nothing to put anyone off coming to view! Cos that's the first hurdle to overcome.

It does look lovely, however I tend to agree with GREENI, unless the car came with the chrome bits and other slightly blingy items I would be inclined to revert back to original. Of course there are folks will all sorts of tastes and it may be someone's cup of tea but given you have had no offers either says that it's a tad over prices or people who are looking to spend that sort of money want it to be "bob on" wrt originality. Good luck with the sale though as they are a rare old beast.

Thanks Defender 9

I have some sympathy -re removing the 'upgrades' although, as I bought it with them, I'm somehow loathe to take them off, even if it would only cost £100 or so to revert.

Where I'm less likely to agree is on price. I think location, rather than price, is the decider about viewing and offers can only be realistically made after viewing so, if no views, no offers. And, given the market, probably priced about right.

In any event, I've now changed the location for viewing so time will tell if that's a success.

To be honest I don't think location is an issue, if someone is looking for that particular vehicle they will travel. When I was looking for an air cooled Porsche, travelling to look at what appeared to be the right vehicle wasn't a problem for me. In the end I bought one 240 miles from where I live. The 50th vehicles are unique I'm sure you will achieve a sale Robert.
