so yes it was the belt tensioner which just sheared off... is this common? it's such an important piece, controlling vital parts like steering and brakes, that seems really badly engineered...
ordered the part from the factory and it should get here today. thanks all for the help. alex |

not common my 2003 HT has 98 miles on the clock

120k on my clock and it seized. £35 to mend though
