I'd recommend fast line coatings in Preston. His prices always seem OK - but he does a top job. He also does a zinc based undercoat if you ask him, which besides rust proofing seems to help the powder adhere. Stephen Last edited by Anderzander on 11th Aug 2016 11:15pm. Edited 1 time in total |

Good Morning John, just a quick question.
Why spray painting and not powder coating? Reason I'm asking is I've got 4 rims with a zero offset in black that I want changing to white. Hi WYF,
To be honest I'm not a huge fan of powder coating for vehicle parts and I'm a one time Technical Manager for the powder coating arm of the business I worked for. It can be done well especially if the preparation is done correctly. Generally it can't be touched up if it fails like you can with paint as you would need to strip and powder coat the complete wheel. The brutal fact is that powder coatings fail eventually and yes painted parts can start to rust especially if the prep is not done well but they are generally easier to rectify. |

Afternoon John, many thanks for the explanation. I think I will get the wheels painted. I now understand that powder coating is perhaps not the best solution for wheels that may get scratched / damaged in normal use.

I got a local bodyshop that sprays a lot of white vans to do my Wolfs.
The boy did them inside and out at the same time as some vans were being done - so zero set up costs, prepping or cleaning out the kit just for me. The white paint is another car manufacturers spec of 'white' but that didn't bother me - more interested in a quality job and getting all around and inside those 'holes' properly painted. If on the other hand you want an exact spec of land Rover paint - be prepared to pay more than 60 Embassy Regals and a bottle of Vimto. |
