2.2TDCi conversion to 3.2TDCi
Hello everyone, forgive me if this is a repeat post - I'm new!
Just as per the title, does anyone have or have done a 2.2tdci to 3.2tdci conversion? Or have you had it done by a garage?
I'd love the 3.2 in my defender and I was just wondering how mammoth a task this was, I know they fit both engines to the transit van and ford ranger so I was just curious if the engine mountings were different or could adaptors be bought? I've changed engines in VWs a few times and I know all the engines had the same mountings or adaptor plates to enable them to fit. Some conversions did require new brackets welded (the audi TT 1.8T BAM engine to a VW mk2 being one.)
Any help advice would be appreciated! I know the 2.2 can have various remaps but I have been told this makes it a highly stressed engine with maps and bits added.
I'm told the 3.2 is surely a far superior and reliable engine, as I have a large boat that is towed regularly I feel abusive on my 2.2 compared to the disco's Td5 although admittedly the disco has a larger intercooler remap egr blank etc etc.

Also if you have a 3.2tdci I'd appreciate any pictures you may have and I'm also aware the gearbox would require changing.
Please help Smile

Callum.

Interesting reading,

Seems bottom line price ranges from around £7000 (big steve) to £25000 if another company just does everything. Huge difference.

I've a 2.4 and although I find it perfectly ok, a bit more is always good, more so if we choose a twin axle Caravan.

However I have this saved in my Land rover file... for £1450 fitted.... ok so your still down on power but a huge increase for the price of a pair of seats...

I know this is a bad question as people will say just by a v8 if you want to go quicker.. but I actually like getting over 30mpg out of my truck. What would a 3.2 do? I guess it should be better just plodding around?

I could justify £1500 and then would leave some cash for better springs and possibly better pads etc.. but £20K fr the 3.2.... I would by a fun car as a weekend warrior Smile

Would love to have a ride in both the 3.2 and a modified 2,4 to feel the difference.

Having just got the BAS 170AB and Hi-flow intercooler which is pushing 170HP and 450Nm, it is great having the extra power. But above this would surely mean stronger gearbox, drive lines etc? So the 3.2tdci but be more than just an engine upgrade? James
