I doubt that. I raised these questions at LRE in Solihull and the answer was ![]() Red Defender Anti stall and idle ramp are seperate issues. Anti stall does as it says, and work in high and low box. Idle ramp only works in low 1st and reverse and increases tick over. The numbers given are from LR and are used by all the LRE centres. Yes they are separate features. ![]() The idle ramp or jack is there to reduce the engine breaking. When the very 'torquey' Puma engine (long stroke) is shut off there is so much engine breaking it actually locks up the wheels thereby inducing a slide. The easy fix is to lift the idle on low 1st to reduce the engine braking. http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic423.html?highlight= |

Yep, Ronnie Dale at the LRE Coniston Hall told us about anti-stall on the TD5 some time ago, although I'm not sure it was that good.

Mine has a habit of occasionally turning off for a few minutes - Usually at the most inopportune moments

td5 does have antistall but it turns off as soon as you touch the accelerator.
the idea of Idle Jack was to increase to 1100rpm in 1st and rev low box only as already mentioned. if it doesnt go to 1100rpm then something is not as it was designed. the reason for this is due to the lower (33%) gearing in 1st gear when compared to a td5 defender to try and give the same descent speeds (not sure what the Rev ratio difference is if any?) the problem as rightly pointed out occurs when trying to cadence brake on a descent to slow the speed further then anti stall comes in and works with idle jack to maintain the 1100rpm, you pushing the foot brake to slow it is the same in essence as the vehicle coming to a hill and meeting resistance so it puts in more fuel. it takes a while to get used to. Shame LRE solihull couldn't answer the question. Cheers James 110 2010 XS Utility 130 2011 M57 bespoke Camper 90 2010 Hardtop 90 M57 1988 Hardtop |

forgot to add that don't forget the vehicles are designed for the average user, the average off road driver will hopefully have some basic trg which is dont touch the pedals on a descent - therefore the system works, its when you start to look at advanced driving techniques the problem manifest and this can be got around safely, and if your trying that then you may be (or think you are) beyond the basic level. Cheers
