From what I have read before the bulb must illuminate to show the "self test" if this doesn't happen the tester will fail it for not functioning. 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html

The tester is correct.
The light must not indicate the presence of a fault. If the light itself is not functioning (which can be determined because it does not illuminate briefly when it is known that it should) then a fault exists. Quod erat demonstrandum. |

The bulb must illuminate to allow a pass
There are probably many td5 discos running about with bulbs removed to eliminate the 3 amigos, most testers would probably not check, I can confirm this as we've been running ours for the past 3 years like this and it's never been picked up on its mot, try a different test station and you'll probably get a pass |

Whilst the information in the link may be correct it is from 2014, i would be wanting a bit more up to date information personally as things change. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

Further down the web page are questions and answers. It looks like if it doesn't illuminate it can't display a fault, so therefore it is rejected. As other posters have said. Here is a page from the MOT inspection manual. So if the warning light stays on it will fail, if it does not come on at all it is not displaying a fault it is a pass? 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..

Hmmmmmmm.
I am reading it as; If the light does not illuminate when ignition on it will be rejected as it cannot display a failure in the SRS, the display itself is faulty plus if it constantly illuminates it is also rejected for being at fault. That is how I interpret it. As always government docs not written comprehensively, leaving a lot for interpretation Cheers Simon I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you 1990 110 TD5 county, my first Land Rover - gone 2012 Discovery 4 XS SDV6 - gone 2014 Discovery 4 XS SDV6 - gone 2015 Evoque SD4 dynamic - Wife’s - gone 2015 Urban Truck 90 XS Santorini Black Hard Top - Reluctantly gone 2020 Discovery 5 Eiger Grey 3.0 SE - gone March 24 2021 Defender S D250 Santorini Black 110 HT - gone March 24 2023 Evoque P300e SE wife’s current vehicle |
