I would like to upgrade my 2002 TD5 head unit. (so single DIN)
I have few requirements, Bluetooth being the main one, I've got a sub and i've upgraded speakers front and rear. I use an Iphone 6S to stream radio and Apple Music, also for Tom Tom Go navigation. I don't use CD's anymore so i'm looking at mechless, I don't particularly want DAB, I'm not that impressed with it. Budget? £200 tops I'm looking at: Pioneer MVH-X580BT Pioneer MVH-8300BT Alpine IDE-185BT Alpine IDE-178BT What do people recommend? Sandy |

Brewstop - Just been having a look found this: https://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/product_m...-26819.htm
Does that price match others you've found? Either way, looking through the specs looks good for what you want, no DAB but like me not that bothered! Multi colour GUI, so you can match or close match the Defenders green dash colour. Works for iPod / iPhone, BT included. Would be ideal to hook up to a trailer cam or reverse cam or similar. Finding best price you could try either eBay and look for a reputable seller, business seller not private. Or go on Google, click the 'shopping' tab and then search the make and model and should come up with some good results. |

AFter reading many reviews I have had a Pioneer MVH-X380BT in my TD5 for 4 months.
Extremely good, I stream Music, Radio & Satnav from my Android phones. It also has a great noise cancelling microphone so now I can actually talk to people whilst I am hooning around. It only cost £75 from eBay He who dies with the most toys wins Defender 90 & 110, S1 80", Disco 1, S111 88 LRSOC & CVLRC |

Give us a good review once you've used it for a while. I fancy one but the reviews on Amazon are a bit mixed.

From the description, that model seems to be 5 years old...is there not a more modern version..? I'd like the unit to have DAB plus good BT streaming.
Anything out there..? Cheers Simon |

So, more in depth research and review reading shows the Pioneer MVH-8300BT doesn't steam music via Bluetooth. Guess what's going to be returned tomorrow without being opened!!! Back to the drawing board. Sandy |

I think I looked at the MVH-8300BT too and rejected it as it is aimed at iphones only
The MVH-X380BT is far simpler more traditional device with out the fancy graphics display, but is superb. Before that I had a Kenwood BT CD receiver with a built in microphone, which lets face it was never going to work in a Defender. What started me looking was when we picked up the wifes TDCi in March with the "Bluetooth" option which turned out to be an Alpine. It has great sound and the microphone in front of the dash is excellent. Its not a bad stereo but the menus are very complicated and non intuitive to use and does not display any of the MP3 metadata whilst streaming music. The Pioneer on the other hand does everything I need it to do and does it well. I mainly listen to music from my phone or stream from iPlayer or Spotify, and take the occasional call, all whilst using CoPilot satnav software. I'll send a photo when I get my 110 back from CSK where its recieving a full dinitrol treatment and an ALIVE remap at the moment I'm in the old Disco today . He who dies with the most toys wins Defender 90 & 110, S1 80", Disco 1, S111 88 LRSOC & CVLRC |

Pioneer MVH-X580BT delivered last week, £98.95 from Dynamic Sounds.
Plug and play fitting and an immediate improvement on sound - very happy so far! https://www.dynamicsounds.co.uk/pioneer-mv...GwodtjoLoQ Sandy |
