My trusted iRiver PMP140, MP3 player has just about died and I'm struggling to find a replacement. This wonderful piece of technology predated the Apple products and had a 140G disk, comprising music, video, a wireless and much more.
All I want is the music and the wireless. My daughter says to get a mobile telephone, but I can't see the benefit. I've spent ages transferring my records and tapes into MP3 format and now can't find a replacement player. I'm not an Apple fan and I've tried a cheap MP3 player from fleabay, but it isn't very loud and also tinny. So any suggestions? Merlin |

Thanks for your replies. bpman's suggestion about the Zune is interesting as it looks great, although is it a good idea to buy a product that is obsolescene? Thanks also to bm52, but going down the cellphone route sounds expensive just to get music and wireless. Could I use a cellphone without the mobile bit?
Has anyone experience of a Zune, that they could share with me? Merlin |

I had a first generation Zune. It was OK 10 years ago but it was big, heavy and the battery life was awful.
I'd just use a phone TBH. You can use them without a SIM installed if you don't want to use it as a phone, and you can get OS mapping for them very cheaply too. Buy a big SD card and stick it in. See if anyone's got an old one they don't use any more? |

I use my iPhone as an MP3 player when driving. I'm no Apple fan either but it does the job and I can also use it's phone function, cutting down the need for multiple devices. If you have any smartphone you could use it as an MP3 player for that matter.

The Zune or iPhone? I had the Zune about eight years ago and is long gone, the iPhone is too useful to sell. You can find either on ebay for sensible prices, depending on the generation. 1999 Land Rover Defender 110 td5 station wagon

I've got a Cowon D2+ (you can put SD cards in to expand the storage) sat at my parents' somewhere if that would be of interest?
And a first gen Zune. The D2+ replaced the Zune in my usage. |

I'm a massive Apple fan so have a Pioneer AVIC-F88DAB with Apple CarPlay in my Defender and a Pioneer SPH-DA120 in my Peugeot. iPhone connects to USB1 and USB key drive connects to USB2 and that has all my music on. Great setup but not cheap.

iPhone 6+, Spotify and unlimited 4G data works for me until the iPhone 7 is released ....
