Reading this I'm thinking I'll keep some clear tube in the vehicle for random emergency oil fill/bleeding/syphon requirements.
It's a Land Rover after all. ![]() ![]() |

Quite a number of years ago now - father, who had an engine reconditioning business at the time, recieved a call from a local outbound centre.
Could they run their 2.25 diesel series III on petrol? Don't be silly, said father, why would you want to? It turned out they'd sent the 'lad' to fill it up and he'd brimmed it from 1/2 full with petrol instead of the oily stuff. They were all very impressed with the new-found performance ![]() ![]() |

Was it not the done thing in years gone by for HGV drivers to add petrol to stop the diesel waxing up in the cold. We obviously have additives in diesel to stop this now, but I seem to remember this. As most HGVs pay for their fuel using Agency Cards, I don't suppose it would allow them to buy petrol these days?
You seem to have poked the stick at the devil, and got away with it. |

Wrong fuel?..Very easy to do.
In Aussie, all types of fuel are sold from the same pump,..4 hoses etc,...very easy to be confused,...as we were! Luckily Wifey was standing alongside me when I was filling up, and she noticed that I had the wrong fuel, so luckily only 1.5L went in,...no probs in 60L. I was talking to a friend of mine who runs an Ultra Tune Service Centre, and He said He's regularly getting calls to exit petrol from diesel vehicles,...He reckons that diesel should be served from a separate pump to lessen confusion. Had a bit of a double take in Florida a few years back. They had green hoses for Diesel and black hoses for Petrol. We didn't miss fuel, but worth remembering if you are going over on your hols.
Four hoses Pickles? What flavours of fuel do you have? |

We usually have 4 hoses at the pumps in the UK too.
Diesel, Diesel Premium, Unleaded and Unleaded Premium. Some put there hoses opposite to others which could cause confusion! ![]() ![]() Click image to enlarge Cheers Simon I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you 1990 110 TD5 county, my first Land Rover - gone 2012 Discovery 4 XS SDV6 - gone 2014 Discovery 4 XS SDV6 - gone 2015 Evoque SD4 dynamic - Wife’s - gone 2015 Urban Truck 90 XS Santorini Black Hard Top - Reluctantly gone 2020 Discovery 5 Eiger Grey 3.0 SE - gone March 24 2021 Defender S D250 Santorini Black 110 HT - gone March 24 2023 Evoque P300e SE wife’s current vehicle |

I'd consider changing the fuel filter soon as it is more than likely to have cleaned the tank and fuel lines out a bit which can block the filter. Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197

It was, and I've needed to do it myself in old W123 Mercedes cars. But today's direct injection engines with their squillionth of a millimetre tolerances are not quite the same thing, it's the lubrication of diesel fuel as opposed to petrol that's important. Eight litres of petrol in a full tank might not cause me to lose TOO much sleep though, any damage has in any case already been done by now, the engine will probably blow up at 240,000 miles rather than 250,000... Oh no!!!240,000 miles , only 80,000 to go then.....were doomed. Now put 10 ltrs svo in the tank, sounds just the same, but a tad perkier I do feel. I do put a couple of ltrs of petrol in, when I am running high SVO %, and we get a frosty snap.

I like to fuel up where the trucks are.
No petrol over there. And it gushes so fast ![]() |
