Hi All,
I joined Defender ownership a couple of months ago, just done my first major change - see below! More to come, but just want to say thanks to all the members here for inspiration, now I realise I will be poorer in a cash sense but richer in the bigger sense Andy Going.... Did some more work over the weekend, fitted a new rear door as the old one was typically rotten, will be fitting a swing away wheel carrier soon. Had to drill out some stubborn bolts on the lower hinges as they were rusted solid.
Thanks to SP 4x4 for the door, now I just need to work out how to bolt the rear windscreen wiper to the door..... Andy Click image to enlarge Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated |

Thanks jk84!
So, this weekend I've been fitting a spare wheel carrier, the Extreme 4x4 swing away one. For the not very mechanically minded (i.e. Me) it's quite a job. My 18 year old son (kind of) helped when he wasn't texting his girlfriend. Following various sets of instructions, I had to improvise some, mounting the bottom offside plate I realised the plate above it would mean moving my wipac brake light down a bit (cue cutting and painting). Also, buying a door without wheel mounting holes meant lots of measuring inside and out, so that the plate (when I drilled through) wasn't fouled by any of the strengthening plates of the door. So, it's not perfectly flush and touching the bump stops, but it feels pretty solid and swings nicely giving some weightiness to the door opening, I can always fettle it later. Got a Mud inner door panel to fit next once I've secured the wiper motor and earth lead - that's another job though. Cheers, @ndy Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated |
