Help! Yet another 2.4 Puma not starting
The honeymoon is over. I know there are a million threads like this but my symptoms seem to be different.

Turn over on the starter no problem, but no sign of firing.

Dash lights etc. all appear normal. Temp gauge on cold.

I'm off to check fuses and relays now, but can anyone else offer any suggestions to get the old girl going.

Anyone? I was meant to be going out tonight Very Happy

Fuses all look healthy. Don't really know what I'm looking at with the relays, there seems to be a lot of them and no means of identifying them. I disconnected the battery for a bit and reconnected, still same.

Several things could cause this, my first suspicion would be crankshaft or camshaft position sensors.

Can they be tested?

I could do with a logical diagnostic process. Is that possible without the fancy diagnosis tools?

do you have any sort of diagnostics tool? It's possible with the cheap ones too.
Have you tried locking it, setting the alarm, and then trying again? I've had issues with the immobiliser before that have been fixed by turning the alarm on and off.

Leaving the battery disconnected completely for a while then reconnected could be worth a try too.
Basic, but easy to eliminate.

I have cheapo diagnostic tool which says no DTCs stored. Have armed and disarmed the alarm too.

I did leave battery disconnected for about 10mins to no avail either.

A chap on Angry Puma's Facebook group is holefully going to help me out with his Lynx diagnostic tool tomorrow, hopefully that will shed some light on the situation.

I'm sort of thinking its alarm/immobiliser related but I don't really know why.

I would also say it could be a crank sensor fault. Hopefully his diag tool will have live data and you can see if the ecu is seeing rpm.

It turns out the camshaft position sensor has died.

Does anyone know the Ford equivelant part number for one, so I can try the local Ford dealer tomorrow.

Is this one of those sensors it's worth keeping one of in my box of bits as it can disable the vehicle in the middle of nowhere?

I'll let you know the cost shortly and you can decide, but I'd say yes if you are going somewhere remote. Car completely disabled with no warning.

No go with no warning and the part is cheap (half that from people other than Ford), I think I'll be picking one of them up then Smile Thanks.
