Would it be better to take your new Defender to a main Ford dealer for servicing?The point being that he would know more about the engine than the Land Rover dealer.To follow this to it's logical conclusion would it be better to buy one from a Ford dealer in the first place? It depends what you want them to do.
The block is the same as in a Ford but it has significant differences. Whether these are beyond the wit of a Ford dealer to figure out or not, they won't interfere (especially since you're vehicle will be under warranty). If all you want them to do is change the fluids and filters then any garage or service center should be able to do it (so long as they have the equipment to reset service interval electronics...). Ford dealers won't be any better equipped to do this than anyone else. If you're after someone to diagnose or rectify issues then I think you're going to have to work with LR - especially whilst you're under warranty. |

I was just curious as to what people thought.I was'nt thinking of going that route myself.Bought mine from an independent who specialises in Land Rovers.I was talking to him about the warranty.He says any faulty parts Land Rover will replace but he must provide the labour.He is to replace a gearbox on another Land Rover-not a Tdci- which is under warranty.Land rover have supplied a gearbox but he must provide the labour.
A main dealer recently replaced an engine in one of the latest Discoverys.The fault was still there in the new engine.Seems they replaced the engine and used the old injectors.One of the injectors was at fault. That sounds odd that he "must provide the labour".
If it is under warranty then any LR dealer should be able to undertake the work. I certainly don't have to take mine back to the original dealer to get any work done. They, of course, encourage it because they do the work and invoice LR centrally so therefore make a load of money - more than selling new vehicles these days. I suspect your independent dealer is trying to encourage you to do the same. That said, i've not looked in to whether the LR warranty is only applicable to LR main dealers. I didn't think that was the case but it might be worth checking the small print. |
