Just had to re-insure my S1 , got a shock to see how prices have moved up Rolling Eyes

I have owned Series 1's for 40 + years and this one for 25 years so thought I would share a few photos.

Can anyone spot the fairly rare part, its not the capstan winch or the PTO?

Chaff guard's pretty scarce now.

I have recently reinsured my 86" and realised that my estimated value was hopelessly low in view of recent trends. Fortunately increasing the value by a factor of about 4 didn't increase the premium in the same proportion!

Well spotted blackwolf. I have only seen one other chaff guard and that was on an 80in.

I would be asking for an agreed value now, don't just go by your own judgement on what YOU think it's worth!

I've just had my newly restored 86" valued by a insurance recognised valuation specialist.
It came in at £36,000... Shocked

I submitted the valuation portfolio to the insurance company (Herritage insurance) who submitted a agreed value certificate for the full amount, no questions asked.
It altered the premium by £22, which took it to the grand sum of £113 per year.

I've now done the same to my 2 80"s as well

you can't buy a good road worthy S1 for less than £8/9 grand now, so if it's insured for less than that, you need to up the value.

Nice chaff screen by the way, Laughing

Been trying to find a full grille one for a while now, they don't seem to exist anymore? Neutral 80" 80" 86" 88" 90"

Ian,
I have agreed value on both my Series One and the Porsche. I can sort of understand that a restored 86in will be valued at £36K although for the life of me and as much as I love my Series One, it still seems a crazy amount especially when I used to buy a running on the road vehicle for less than £500. Ah the good old days Smile Oh and don't get me started on the subject of Ebay prices for Series One parts; I used to give away stuff to friends up until a few years ago to help them out, nowadays the same parts are making mad money in my opinion.

I know what you mean about part prices!
It's one thing paying out for the vehicle, but when you needs the parts to go with it.....😳

Glad you got it insured properly, lots of people seem to underestimate their value, and under insure them.
Sure, an agreed value is not what its actually worth, but what it would cost to replace if you have the misfortune to have to claim.

Cheers

Spoken to my Insurer here in France today and they only take official Land Rover upgrades into account apparently. So if I lose my Defender somehow I'll only get the value of the car itself according to their valuators and nothing else. Anyone know of another insurer in France that will value the car and all the upgrades so I have a fair valuation and enough cover?
